Himalayan s alt - does it contain iodine?

The iodine content of pink Himalayan s alt remains a mystery. Some sources say that it does not contain this element and must be enriched. However, according to the data given in the book "Water & S alt - The Essence of Life", it appears that in Himalayan s alt you can find<0,1 g/kg, tj. <10 mg/100 g tego pierwiastka.

Iodine is necessary for the production of thyroid hormones. Its long-term deficiency leads to hypothyroidism, enlargement of the thyroid gland and the formation of a goiter. Significant iodine deficiency in pregnant women can cause irreversible brain underdevelopment in the fetus and cretinism; it can also cause reproductive disorders and higher child mortality. Normal s alt does not contain iodine, therefore in Poland since 1997 there is a mandatory enrichment of table s alt intended for direct consumption with iodine in the amount of 2.3 ± 0.77 mg in 100 g of table s alt.
