Nifuroxazide - ingredients

Nifuroxazide(4-hydroxybenzoic acid 2 - [(5-nitro-2-furanyl) methylene] hydrazide) - is an organic chemical compound with chemotherapeutic activity belonging to the nitrofuran family, that is, compounds with furan in their structure with an attached nitro group.

Tablet- contains 200 mg of nifuroxazide; excipients: potato starch, povidone, magnesium stearate and an Opadry II coating consisting of polyvinyl alcohol, macrogol 3350, quinoline yellow, lake (E 104); talc, titanium dioxide (E 171), sunset yellow, lake (E 110); indigo carmine lake (E 132).

Syrup- contains 220 mg / 5 ml of nifuroxazide suspension; 4.00 g vehiculum 100.00 g

Nifuroxazide - action

Nifuroxazide has antibacterial activityagainst most bacteria that cause intestinal infections and has anti-cancer activity towards colorectal and breast cancer.

Indications for its use are acute and chronic bacterial diarrhea and other diseases in the course of diarrhea.

The detailed mechanism of action of the drug has not been known yet. However, nifuroxazide is expected to act locally by inhibiting the activity of bacterial dehydrogenases and enzymes involved in their protein synthesis. Aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) is responsible for the bioactivation of this drug.

Nifuroxazide has been found to have a strong inhibitory effect (inhibitor) of the Janus kinase 2 and transcription factor 3 (JAK2 / STAT3) pathways. It also has a direct effect on oxidative stress and cell apoptosis. It does not affect the microbiological balance of the digestive tract.
