There are many snowboarding and skiing enthusiasts. There has been a long dispute as to what is better to ride, which sports gives more opportunities and which has a better effect on our he alth. So … snowboard or skis - what to choose?
Skis or snowboard- what to choose? Both a skiing trip and snow snowboarding madness will have a great influence on the condition, improve metabolism, help burn fat, oxygenate the body and develop leg muscles. At the same time, practicing both sports will give you a lot of joy and satisfaction.
The main difference between snowboarding and skiing is the downhill position and the range of motion of the legs. Downhill on a snowboard means immobilizing the legs and balancing the body with the whole body, which, especially at first, seems very unnatural due to the limitation of movement. Skis, on the other hand, engage the knees the most. But that's not the only difference between skiing and snowboarding. What else are they different?
Snowboard or skis: learning
Although most fans of snow madness believe that skiing is easier, it will be easier for us to learn the technique of snowboarding. Interestingly, you can start skiing earlier - at the age of 3. Due to the unnatural position during the descent on the board and the need for developed motor coordination, snowboarding is recommended only for children 4-6 years old.
When learning to snowboard, experience skateboarding or surfing on a surfboard. Strong muscles of the torso, abdomen and back will be helpful, as well as full mobility of the spine - mainly rotational corresponding to e.g. for maintaining a proper posture or firmly setting the body in the ground and helping to maintain a static and dynamic balance
According to an expertAndrzej Kępczyński, an experienced physiotherapist specializing in the rehabilitation of motor organsWhich sport is more injured?
The bane of skiers are knee injuries, which are the most involved when riding on two boards, and they suffer the most during collisions and falls. Ski injuries are mainly stretched or torn injuries. They can be partially prevented by proper training and caution. Skiing without muchYou can learn to hurt yourself alone or under the supervision of an experienced colleague.
On the other hand, snowboarding is breakage and impacts directly resulting from falls. This cannot be properly prevented with exercise. Therefore, in this case, it is important to wear pads, stabilizers, e.g. wrist (reinforcements in gloves) and spine (so-called turtles), and a helmet. The good and experienced instructor who will teach us to control the immobilized body is also invaluable, at least at the beginning of the struggle with the board.
Snowboard or skis: style
Comparing skiing to snowboarding, it is easy to see that this second winter sport requires greater balance and body balance skills. This can be seen, for example, in the way of braking: if you want to stop while snowboarding, you have to put a lot of energy into maintaining a stable posture, keeping on the edge of the board. In the case of skis, the braking process involves fewer muscle groups, and the force put into it can be transferred to one limb while relieving the other, which is not possible with a snowboard.
Both skiing and snowboarding you can enjoy skiing at various levels of advancement. Experienced amateurs of snow madness increase the emotions while driving by performing various tricks, using ramps or going down unmarked routes. Both in the case of snowboarding and skis, there are also many possibilities to make your skiing more attractive. Nevertheless, visually, snowboarding - dynamic and specific due to the body layout - looks more effective.
Snowboard or skis: preparation for the season
When preparing to go to the slope, you must take care of strengthening your legs and better condition. If we are amateurs of skating on two boards, let's focus especially on the muscles of the thighs and take care of the knees. If we prefer snowboarding, we should exercise our deep muscles as well as the oblique muscles of the abdomen and legs. In both cases, before the first descent from the slope, it is necessary to warm up for a few minutes, and just after removing the skis or the board, do not forget to stretch your tired muscles.
Snowboard or skis: price
The pleasure of snowboarding and skiing is comparable. It all depends mainly on the quality of the equipment we invest in. The prices of the skis range from PLN 1000-2000. For a new snowboard we will pay from 500 to 1,300 zlotys. Added to this, however, is the cost of buying boots and bindings (about PLN 500-700), which are usually "included" when buying skis. To be able to go crazy in the snow, you have to take into account the costs of the lift, but it is worth knowing that skiers and snowboarders can slide down the same routes.
Snowboard or skis: fashion / preferences
While everyone likes skiing, regardless of age, snowboarding is preferred by young people. For over a decade, it has been one of the most popular winter sports among young people, because it is inherently associated with freedom and a bit of madness. However, this trend seems to be changing recently. Family skiing trips have been popular in Poland for several years, where children learn to ride on two boards in special schools. When they grow up, their love for skiing stays, and snowboarding is only a springboard for them, because they prefer skiing, which they have known since childhood. Therefore, the traditional, centuries-old skiing (invented around 4,500 years ago) is more reputable.
