The rules ofcrossminton (speed badminton)are simple and the technique is undemanding. Two people are needed to play (singles match) or four (doubles match). The new form of play is very similar to the well-known badminton or tennis game. Points are scored by hitting the dart in the player's field, and losing points when the shuttle lands outside the field. The difference is that speed games are played faster and without the use of a net.
To play speed badminton, players only need a properly balanced shuttle and a special racket. What's more, speedacan be played anywhere - just draw two square-shaped fields (5.5 x 5.5 meters) on the ground, spaced about 13 meters from each other - and you can start the game!
Crossminton (speed badminton) - what is it
Speed badminton (crossminton)is a type of sport invented by an athlete of German origin - Bill Brandes. Brandes decided to diversify and speed up the game of badminton. He replaced the traditional badminton shuttlecock with a heavier one and additionally established the rules of the game, enabling faster and more dynamic game with a high dose of adrenaline. You do not need any nets, posts or a court to play. This is why you can play in different places: on the beach, in the glade, in the snow on mountain peaks, in the streets, squares and even on the roofs!
Finally, in 2005, a new sport discipline was registered in Germany under the name "speed badminton", and regular tournament competitions appeared in many countries. In 2011, the first world championships were held in Berlin, and the participating countries formed a world federation for a new sport.
From 2016, at the request of the World Badminton Federation, the name "speed badminton" was changed to "crossminton" in order to be able to finally apply for Olympic status in the future.
Crossminton (speed badminton) - variations of the game
Freestyle- matches are played with no pitch, no rulesand no point limits.
Blackminton- a game played at night, using a special fluorescent dart and UV lighting.
Fun Match- a game in which goals are made of special orange markers. The width of the goals and their distance from each other are not predetermined. This type of game is about defending your own goal and scoring the opponent's goal (points are awarded when the shuttle passes over your opponent's goal).
Match- this type of match is played according to the tournament rules:
- Points are earned by hitting the dart into the opponent's field. If the shuttle lands outside the designated square, the opponent gets the point.
- In order not to lose points, the shuttle must not fall to the ground between the squares and the player's field (the line is also included in the field) and touch the player or his clothes.
- The competitor may not hit the shuttle twice in a row or hit the shuttle that has fallen to the ground (a point in favor of the opponent).
Crossminton singles tournament rules:
- A match will be 2 sets played up to 16 points.
- The server changes every 3 servos (in case of a tie 15:15 every one servo).
- The players will switch sides after each set, and in the third set, when one of the players has scored 8 points.
- In speed badminton, overhead serve is forbidden - we bring the shuttle into the game by serving from the bottom 1/3 of the back court (it's best to measure 3 meters from the front line before the game and mark the serve line with tape on the side lines).
Crossminton Doubles Tournament Rules
During a doubles match, each of the players from one team is placed in one area of the court - front zone or rear zone. The server plays in the rear zone, and every service is swapped. During play, the back foot of the player in the rear zone must not be in front of the back foot of the player in the front zone.
The scoring, service change and side change are the same as in the singles match.
Crossminton (speed badminton) - equipment
To play crossminton, apart from the racket with a shuttle and ordinary sports shoes, you do not need any special clothes.
Darts are so-called speeders. They are heavier than standard ailerons, thanks to which they are characterized by high stability in the wind, their structure is more compact and, additionally, special protrusions are placed on the tip. The solutions used in speeders reduce air resistance, thanks to which the shuttle can fly higher, further and faster. There are threetypes of speeders:
- Fun Speeder- this is a shuttle for beginners
- Match Speeder- shuttlecock designed for quick play in tournament conditions
- Night Speeder- a fluorescent dart that can be played in the dark.
Special crossminton rackets are light and handy, even for laymen - they weigh about 170 g, resemble squash rackets, have a length of about 58 cm and a very strong tension, thanks to which speeders can reach speeds up to 290 km / h. The central field of the crossminton rackets, i.e. the place where the shuttle should bounce, is very close to the hand.
Besides, the technical solutions used in the rockets mean that everyone can enjoy the game. Basic movements are easy to master and are immediately fun to do. With speeders flying at high speed, defending your square becomes a real challenge. After an hour of great fun, you can burn up to 600 calories. It's more than in the gym!
