The benefits of regular exercise are well known. More and more evidence also indicates thatphysical activity is also extremely important for the proper functioning of the brain.Recently, scientists have proved that it is able to improve memory and has an excellent effect on the cognitive functions of the brain.
The study was conducted by scientists from UT Southwestern, and the results were published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. It was attended by 30 participants, each of whom were 60 years old or older and had problems with memory. It lasted for 12 months. Half of the participants exercised regularly during this time (aerobic training), the rest were just stretching.

People who exercised actively had 47 percent of improved memory performance compared to the group that only performed light stretching exercises.

Imaging of the brain of people in the exercise group, taken while resting before and after training, showed increased blood flow to two key areas of the brain related to memory, including the hippocampus.

New research is of great importance: they prove thatdeclining memory can be improved even in the elderly- all you need to do is do aerobic exercise every day.

According to the researchers, the results of these studies may also help prevent or delay the onset of symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. The fact that physical activity is of great importance in this case is also evidenced by other studies, including the one from 2022, which showed that in less physically fit people, important nerve fibers in the brain called white matter are degraded faster.
