Pimple eczema, or microbial eczema, is one of the types of contact eczema. The skin changes are coin-shaped and most often appear on the skin of the limbs, torso and hands. Its causes are unknown. Nematode eczema usually appears in middle-aged adults, although it also occurs in children. What are the symptoms of nematode eczema and how is it treated?

Eczema nematode(Eczema nematode, microbial eczema, Latineczema nummulare ) is a type of eczema characterized by numerous circular lesions, in in the shape of coins, most often in the size of 1-3 cm. They are clearly demarcated from the surroundings. Erythematous foci are covered with vesicles and papules. Chronic changes are covered with exfoliating epidermis.

The location of pimple eczema is not specific, the lesions may appear symmetrically on the trunk, legs and backs of the hands.

The disease is chronic, occurs with relapses and more often affects the elderly. Monetary eczema is very rare in children. Patients with nematode eczema may be hypersensitive to neomycin, nickel, mercury, and formaldehyde.

The diagnosis of nematode eczema is established on the basis of the clinical picture and a medical interview with the patient.

Diagnostic tests are usually not required. Scrapings of the epidermis should be examined to rule out fungal infection in single lesions.

Mating eczema - differentiation

Nematode eczema should be differentiated from diseases with a similar clinical picture. These include:

  • plaque psoriasis - no vesicles and exudates, no itching
  • superficial mycosis of the skin - in order to make a diagnosis, a mycological examination should be performed
  • pink dandruff - if the eczema occurs on the trunk, it differs in the absence of blisters and erosions
  • contact dermatitis

Mating eczema - treatment

In the treatment of nematode eczema, local and general treatment is used.

During topical treatment, it is advisable to use emollients and soap-free cleansing agents. Topical creams and sprays with antibiotics and medium-strength steroids are used.

During general treatment, as in other types of eczema, antiallergic agents are given. Antibiotics are used depending on the results of the antibiogram. In case of severe changes, administration of steroids is appropriate.

Mating eczema - prevention

The occurrence of changes is favored by various factors - including stress, secondary infections and excessive dryness of the skin. Although these changes cannot be completely prevented, the likelihood of developing acne nematode eczema can be reduced. For this purpose, it is worth:

  • moisturize the skin
  • avoid using soap
  • wear clothes with a natural composition, airy and loose
  • humidify the air in the room
