Sensitizing plantsare mainly grasses and trees. Which of them are the most sensitizing and in what periods?

Sensitizing plants: grasses

Hay fever is one of the main symptoms of inhalation allergy. It is most often caused by pollen produced by grass, ash and small-leaved linden. The main time of grass pollination takes place from the second half of May to the first half of July. It is grass pollen that most often causes seasonal allergic ailments in Poland.

The highest concentration of grass pollen is observed between 5 and 8 a.m. and also from 5 to 7 p.m. During this time, allergy sufferers should stay at home if possible.

Sensitizing plants: ash

Hay fever is also a reaction of the allergic organism to ash, which belongs to the olive plant family. Highly allergenic ash pollen causes allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis, mainly in the Mediterranean countries. In our country, there are many cases of cross-reactions between ligustru and European olive allergens.

Sensitizing plants: linden

Hay fever is also caused by small-leaved linden, a tree commonly found in Poland. Lime has healing properties - the infusion obtained from its flowers is used to treat strep throat, flu, sore throat or fever. However, it does not change the fact that linden pollen causes the symptoms of allergies: hay fever, hives and conjunctivitis.

Sensitizing plants: hazel

Hazel allergy is quite common. People allergic to hazel pollen may experience allergy symptoms also during the pollen period of birch and alder. In addition to pollen allergy, some allergy sufferers notice symptoms of allergy to hazelnuts, i.e. hazelnuts.

Sensitizing plants: alder, poplar

More and more people are also struggling with allergies to alder flowers, although until recently alder was not considered a tree with allergenic properties. Interestingly, the plant does not have to be allergenic to cause allergic symptoms.

This is the case with poplars. Its pollen irritates the nasal mucosa and conjunctiva, but it is not an allergic reaction. Typical allergy symptoms appear after an allergic person comes into contact with elm pollen. Allergic sufferers experience itching, watery eyes, sneezing, wheezing, headache and sinus pain.

Sensitizing plants: birch, beech, willow

Inflammation of the mucous membranes also occurs after contact with birch pollen. Relatively severe allergic reactions are also the result of contact with beech pollen. This tree is dusting the most heavily at the beginning of May. It is worth remembering that beech pollen has carcinogenic properties. It is different in the case of willow - despite its allergenic effect, the tree has healing properties. Elderberry, sorrel, nettle and plantain are also used in herbal medicine.

Sensitizing plants: hornbeam, lebioda

Some inhalation allergies are quite rare, as is the case with hornbeam pollen. It may also happen that an allergy is quite common, but its symptoms are not very severe, as exemplified by an allergy to quinoa (quinoa). Although Lebioda does not cause severe allergy symptoms, it is worth avoiding as it is a poisonous plant. It is also advisable to limit contact with alternaria - a mold fungus showing a strong allergic effect.
