Have you ever met someone allergic to iodine? How is it manifested?

Hello, Yes, of course I have met patients allergic to iodine in my medical practice. Symptoms of allergy depend on the dose and route of administration. Contact with iodine can be made through the outer coatings when iodine is used - then redness and swelling of the tissues at the site of contact with iodine may occur. Occasionally there may be general symptoms in the form of the so-called Quincke's edema - i.e. swollen throat or lips caused by allergies. Iodine can be part of expectorant syrups (known as kalium jodatum) and causes a special type of acne (acne jodicum) in people allergic to iodine. Finally, iodine is a component of the contrast agents used for x-rays in radiological examinations. In such cases, iodine is administered intravenously and may cause very severe allergic reactions, including shock, in an allergic person. A person allergic to iodine or suspecting such an allergy should always and obligatorily inform a doctor, nurse, radiological technician and any other professional he alth care professional who performs any procedures or medical procedures on this person.
