Electrostimulation is one of the forms of electrotherapy, the task of which is to stimulate and improve the nerves and muscles. When should this method be used? Who is helping and who shouldn't use it?

Electrostimulationis a procedure that is performed with the use of a special apparatus. The electrodes of the apparatus are attached to the patient's body at the motor points, that is, in the places where the nerves enter the muscle. The electrodes are held by special bands. When the device is triggered, a low-frequency current causes a muscle contraction similar to that caused by exercise.

Electrostimulation - when to use?

Electrostimulation is used primarily in rehabilitation and physical therapy to save damaged muscles in the case of paralysis and flaccid paresis.

Electrostimulation treatments are performed to prevent the degeneration of the denervated muscle. They are carried out until the damaged peripheral nerve is regenerated.

Electrostimulation is also used to combat back pain and increase general immunity.

Electrostimulation is also used by aesthetic medicine for body contouring, cellulite elimination and fat removal. Thanks to electrostimulation treatments, it is possible to oxygenate the skin, accelerate the production of collagen and elastin.

Electrostimulation - benefits

Electrostimulation increases muscle efficiency and reduces the amount of adipose tissue. It can be used on all parts of the body, and the best results in reducing body fat are visible on the abdomen and thighs. Women often use this procedure to lift their buttocks.

Electrostimulation gives the best results in a series of treatments performed daily or every two days.

Electrostimulation - contraindications

Electrostimulation treatments are not recommended for all patients. Before the doctor recommends them, he conducts a detailed interview to determine what chronic diseases the patient suffers from.
Electrostimulation treatments are not performed at:

  • people with heart disease
  • epilepsy
  • skin inflammation
  • spastic muscle paralysis
  • varicose veins
  • for nodules andtumors of unknown origin

Electrostimulation - the course of the treatment

The treatment is performed on a treatment or cosmetic chair. The places where the electrodes are connected on the body are disinfected and a special gel is applied to the electrodes.

The apparatus must be turned on, then the electrodes are placed on the patient's body and fastened with Velcro, then the cables are connected to them, creating a closed circuit for the current. Each muscle is treated with a dose of regulated intensity.

It starts small, gradually increasing its strength. After reaching the maximum, gradually reduce the dosage to a minimum.

Rehabilitation electrostimulation treatments can be performed under the National He alth Fund or privately. They are also recommended by wellness salons, beauty parlors and massage parlors.

However, before we decide on electrostimulation privately, it is worth making sure what experience a given facility has in performing them. Incorrectly performed surgery may cause us he alth problems.
