The first few days of postpartum can be difficult - you may feel sore and weak. Bleeding from the genital tract, wound on the perineum, problems with defecation … How can you bear this difficult time after childbirth?

Use large earbuds

Vaginal discharge is abundant at first, so get yourself in advance with large panty liners, also known as postpartum pads (e.g. Bella brands), which perfectly absorb blood and allow air to pass through at the same time. Standard sanitary pads will be insufficient. Under no circumstances should you use vaginal tampons. Change the insoles at least every 2-3 hours, also after each visit to the toilet. Note: wash your hands not only after changing the base, but also before doing so, so that you do not introduce germs on your hands near the wound after an incision or crack in the perineum.

Wear comfortable underwear

You can buy special disposable mesh panties, but not all women like them. Plain, looser cotton panties will work just as well. Such panties are also airy and wearing them is safe (contrary to the opinion from years ago), as long as you ventilate your perineum. A good bra is also important: no underwire, with wide straps and detachable cups for breastfeeding.

What should you know about childbirth?

Save your perineum

Once your perineum has been incised, you will not be able to sit normally for 7-10 days as this may result in injury. To reduce discomfort, place a special pillow with a hole under your bottom or a towel rolled into a roll and shaped in the shape of the letter "U".

Take care of intimate hygiene

Wash as often as needed - but no less than 3 times a day - under running water, front to back. For washing, use a mild intimate wash, one that does not irritate sensitive areas. The perineal cleansing with Tantum Rosa is also very good, as it has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antiseptic properties. The healing of the wound will also help with infusions of herbs: oak bark, calendula, chamomile.

Dry the wound carefully

After washing the perineum, gently dry it with a disposable paper towel - it must be soft and absorb water well. Traditional towels are not so absorbent or hygienic. Do not rub your crotch to avoid disturbing the seams.

Wind your crotch

Access to air acceleratesheals the wound and prevents bacterial infections, therefore the incised perineum must be aired. Lie down without underwear, put a large pad or a sheet of lignin under your buttocks, bend your legs a little at the knees and rest this way for 15-20 minutes at least 2-3 times a day. In a hospital, in a multi-person room, it can be difficult, but you have to try - you can, for example, put a sheet or a towel on your knees, or lie down in bed with your feet against the wall.
