Plant hormones (phytohormones) are active substances that regulate the growth and development of plants. Scientists have proven that they can also be a boon for women, especially in the menopausal period.
According to the current knowledge of scientists, phytohormone replacement therapy(FTZ) is safer than hormone replacement therapy (HRT), although its effectiveness is lower. It works well during the mildly bothersome ailments of the menopause, sometimes it is also used as a supplement to HRT, e.g. at the beginning of the menopause.
Plant hormones, which are produced in the growth cones of shoots and roots, are similar to female hormones. In this way, plant hormone therapy reduces hot flashes and helps to inhibit cold sweat. In addition, FTZ contributes to the protection of the heart and bones and - importantly - soothes the mood swings and improves the well-being, which usually lowers during the menopause.
Phytohormonal Replacement Therapy also improves concentration and memory, and is effective in the prevention of atherosclerosis. You have to wait 2-3 months for the effects.
Sources of phytohormones
Scientists have noticed that in Asia, where soy consumption, a plant rich in phytohormones, is greater, women have five times less menopausal symptoms than North Americans. There have been many studies that have confirmed the effectiveness of phytohormones in relieving the symptoms of the menopause.
But not only soybeans are a good source of phytohormones - ginseng, pomegranate, apples, dates, grapefruits, cherries, garlic and grapes have a lot of them.
ImportantNot all women can useHormone Replacement Therapy(HRT) - contraindications to its use include, among others viral hepatitis, recent heart attack, unexplained vaginal bleeding or thromboembolism in recent years.
There are also diseases such as glaucoma, varicose veins, arterial hypertension, gallbladder stones, fibrocystic breast changes, the presence of which does not preclude the use of HRT, but in which close cooperation between a gynecologist and a specialist who carries out the treatment of a given patient is required. diseases.
In addition, hormone therapy, according to the latest research, may increase the risk of developing breast cancer.
Dietary supplements with phytohormones
Unfortunately, a diet rich in soy, ginseng, grapes, dates and pomegranates is not very popular in Poland. We associate tofu with soy cheese mainly with vegetarians and may not suit everyone because of its bland taste. And in Asian countries it is an important element of the diet - Japanese women consume 200 mg of phytohormones a day, while European women much less.
It's good to know that FTZ is not recommended for women who have had breast or endometrial cancer.
Therefore, dietary supplements containing plant hormones and other ingredients have been developed for women suffering from menopause.
It should be remembered that although preparations with phytohormones are available in pharmacies without a prescription, the decision to take such dietary supplements should be consulted with a gynecologist who will order tests and select the dose and determine the duration of the phytohormonal treatment.
