Loki for longer. What is a perm? If you dream of lush, thick and curly hair, you can make yourself permanent. However, although this procedure is safer than several decades ago, it can still damage the hair, so it requires careful consideration.
Treatmentpermis not very famous. Although it has been known for many years - the first variation, hot, was introduced in 1934 by the Schwarzkopf company, and in 1946 cold-lasting appeared - it is associated primarily with the "lamb" hairstyles fashionable in the 1980s.
The lack of skills of hairdressers and the wrong choice of preparations meant that the permed hair was damaged, dry, frizzy and difficult to style. However, this is a thing of the past, because the permanent waving preparations used today, although they still have an impact on the hair structure, are not so invasive and in the efficient hands of a hairdresser they can provide the effect of curls for several months. The costs of the treatmentrange from 60 to 200 PLN and depend both on the length of the hair and the type of preparations used.
Types of perm
The best results are obtained with he althy and strong hair. However, salons offer different types of perm to suit your hair type - normal, fine and delicate, bleached or colored - the hairdresser decides which one to choose. Treatments can be divided into:
- Sour Ondulation- it is gentler and its effects last up to 3 months, but the curls look more natural. It is used for weaker, delicate hair, it can also be performed on bleached hair.
- Alkaline (alkaline) indulation- it is performed on normal hair, not damaged by other treatments (e.g. bleaching). Its effect lasts up to 10 months.
- Permanent herbal- the mildest, the hair during the treatment is additionally nourished with herbal extracts.
- Permanent two-phase- performed at the roots (when the treatment had already been performed and the hair at the roots regained its original shape). In this case, a stronger fluid is applied to the roots, and a milder fluid is applied to the remaining hair. Becausethe thickness of the twist depends on the type of rollers used, it is worth agreeing the final shape of the hairstyle with your hairdresser.
Contraindications to perm
If the hair has been dyed before, it is necessary to mention it -permis not performed immediately after dyeing, and is not recommended if henna was used for dyeing. The procedure is also not performed in the first trimester of pregnancy (because there are no tests that would exclude the impact of chemicals used during the procedure on the fetus). In the later trimesters it is not forbidden, but it is better to give it up if the skin has become more sensitive and reacts with irritation to the ingredients in cosmetics. In any case, an allergy test is recommended before the procedure - if you have sensitive skin or are allergic, you must ask for it, if the hairdresser does not propose it himself.
What is the permanent waving procedure?
A permlasts from an hour to two, and like any treatment, it begins with washing your hair. Then the hairdresser rolls the individual strands onto rollers, secures the ends with paper flakes and sprinkles the whole thing with a wave lotion. The liquid contains ammonium thioglycolate, which breaks the disulfide bonds that bind together the protein molecules found in the hair shaft. Each hair is made up of many such bonds, and the way they are arranged determines whether they are curly or straight. When the compounds contained in the liquid break, they become more malleable and can be shaped into any shape with the help of rollers. The perm usually needs to be kept on the hair for 20 to 30 minutes, which, however, depends on the condition of the hair, its length and effect, what we want to achieve - the time and course of the process is constantly monitored by the hairdresser. After rinsing off the liquid, a fixative is applied to the hair, regenerating the deepest hair structures, nourishing and moisturizing them.
- A well-made permanent can make a difference in appearance. The effects last for several months. On the other hand, a poorly performed perm can damage the hair, and in extreme cases it will be necessary to cut it short.
How to care for your hair after a perm?
After the treatment, the hair will be weaker and less flexible, so you need to properly care for it. They must not be combed with a classic brush, a wooden comb with widely spaced teeth will be better. You can wash them for the first time after two or three days (for the twist to become stronger). To wash and care for permanent hair, it is recommended to nourish and regenerate the hair, and at the same time emphasize the curls of waves and curls. Avoid hot air from the dryer, as it also dries out. Only after some time after the treatment the curls start to lose their elasticity, they can be dried with a diffuser (using a stream of cool air) - it is best to dry your hair with your head down, because then it will rise at the roots, which will give the effect ofnatural curls . For styling, it is worth using moisturizing mousses and gels for curly hair. To avoid the "hay" effect, dry ends should be trimmed once a month.
