Indigestion, heartburn, diarrhea, gas and wind often accompany culinary debauchery. We succumb to the temptation to try another dish on a richly set table, and the next day our digestive system begins to rebel. How to prevent ailments caused by excessive eating and drinking?
You've promised yourself so many times never to be fooled by temptation again. But how to deny yourself, when the mere sight and smell of food causes the body to release more saliva and gastric juices. No wonder that the enjoyment of a richly set table often ends with a feeling of "brick" in the stomach, abdominal pain, nausea, flatulence ,heartburnordiarrhea . Usually, the symptoms of indigestion disappear on their own after a few hours, but it can also last for 1-2 days. Learn about proven ways that will relieve ailments and help restore your well-being.
For indigestion:
- It's best to overcool yourself. In case of severe ailments, drink only warm, boiled or non-carbonated water for the first hours - you will cleanse the body of toxins. Then gradually include light foods in your diet, such as cooked apple, rice, potatoes, carrots, lean poultry, and fish. For several days, avoid fried foods, flatulent vegetables, sweets, coffee, alcohol.
- Stress in the abdomen and nausea will be relieved by herbal teas without sugar, made of chamomile or mint, e.g. with the addition of cinnamon or ginger.
- If you feel full, you will find relief from an infusion of St. John's wort, sage or marjoram (pour a tablespoon of dried fruit with a glass of boiling water, leave it covered for 10-15 minutes, strain).
- A glass of homemade tincture on nuts or stomach drops may be a solution.
- Lie down on your stomach with a hot water bottle or electric pillow. Heat causes the smooth muscles of the digestive tract to relax, relieves pain and has a calming effect.
- If the pain is severe, take a reliever medication, e.g. No-Spa, Galospa, Buscopan.
For heartburn:
- A solution of baking soda (a teaspoon per glass of warm water) will help - neutralizes irritating hydrochloric acid.
- Drink a glass of linseed decoction or eat a handful of almonds - they are alkaline,so they neutralize the hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Aloe vera juice soothes irritation of the esophagus.
- Do not eat chocolate and onions - they relax the lower esophageal sphincter, promoting the regurgitation of food, and give up coffee, fats, fruit and citrus juices - they increase the acidity of the stomach contents.
- Loosen the strap, undo the button, if you can change into comfortable clothes - pressure on the stomach increases heartburn.
- Avoid lying down. Lie on your left side when you go to sleep to prevent the backflow of stomach contents into the esophagus.
- Reach for drugs that neutralize hydrochloric acid and protect the gastric and esophageal mucosa, e.g. Alugastrin, Kompensan, Alusal, Magnosil, Milmag, Alumag, Maalox, Manti, Rennie, Sal Vichy.
- If such drugs do not help, take a stronger agent that inhibits the production of hydrochloric acid, e.g. Ranigast, Riflux.
- dark chocolate (the bitter it is, the more theobromine it contains, which slows down the intestines);
- grilled and fried meat eaten in large portions (e.g. already 2 sausages from the fire may cause problems with excretion);
- alcohol in large amounts (small amounts of alcohol are broken down by the body in 90%, large amounts cause disturbances in the functioning of the stomach, which causes diarrhea or constipation).
It is best to use one of the home remedies for constipation. Prunes, yoghurts and kefirs, or ground linseed with water will help. If traditional methods do not help and constipation is prolonged, a laxative can be used as needed.
For gas and wind:
- Use herbal infusions to accelerate digestion, which are carminative and help to get rid of the feeling of distress: mint, cumin, fennel or anise (2 teaspoons of herbs pour a glass of boiling water, infuse 10-15 minutes, strain). You can take, for example, a teaspoon of mint and valerian, or make a mixture of several ingredients. A teaspoon of ground cumin with a glass of warm water should help.
- Relief will bring stomach drops, mint or anise drops.
- Add a few drops of marjoram, juniper, basil or a little of each oil to the bathtub with warm water, soak in the water for 15-20 minutes. A warm, aromatic bath relaxes and stimulates the intestinal peristalsis, accelerating the removal of gases.
- Give your belly a massage. Gently rub the area around the navel with the palm of your hand, in a clockwise circular motion, gradually increasing the pressure. This way you will stimulate tired intestines to work.
- Take a preparation that will neutralize gases in the intestines,e.g. Espumisan, Esputicon, Manti Gastop.
Natural remedies for flatulence
For liver ailments:
- Right side crinkling under the ribs and nausea can be eliminated by drinking an infusion of herbs with choleretic and diastolic effects, e.g. dandelion root, St. John's wort, mint or ready-made Hepatina herbal mixture.
- You will find relief by drinking warm boiled water with lemon or unsweetened cranberry juice.
- Take a preparation with silymarin (milk thistle seed extract), which regenerates the liver flesh, has a choleretic effect and accelerates detoxification, e.g. Sylimarol, Syligran, Legalon, Lagosa, or cinerain (artichoke herb extract with a similar effect), e.g. Cynacholin, Cynarex. Quick relief will be brought by an agent containing ornithine - an amino acid that protects the liver and regulates digestion, e.g. Hepatil, Hepa-Merz, or other liver support measures, e.g. Hepacom, Heparegen. Preparations with essential oils will also help, e.g. Terpichol, Rowachol.
- In case of severe pain, take a diastolic drug, e.g. No-Spa, Pyralginum.
- Apply a warm compress (e.g. a hot water bottle) to the sore spot.
For diarrhea:
- Drink plenty of still mineral water and teas: green, mint, chamomile, rosehip - soothe the digestive tract.
- Ailments will be alleviated by unsweetened blueberry juice.
- Drink half a glass of warm water with amber tincture added. You can buy it at a pharmacy or prepare it yourself: rinse 10 grams of crushed amber, dry it, pour it into a bottle and pour 300 ml of spirit. Close it, set aside for 2 weeks in a dark, warm place. Shake it several times a day.
- On the first day, eat only rusks, the next - rice gruel, boiled carrots, and an apple. Avoid milk, sugar - they can aggravate diarrhea.
- Try a massage that should calm your gut. Rub the area around the navel with circular movements, gradually increasing the pressure. Do it counterclockwise.
- Reach for anti-diarrheal herbs (blueberry, cinquefoil rhizome, oak bark, knotweed rhizome, mint leaf) or anti-diarrheal drug (charcoal, Smecta).
