Hello! My mother was diagnosed with phase II sarcoidosis. Is this something serious? And can it be cured? My mom's feet also get swollen (the swelling does not go down overnight). Does it have something to do with this disease or maybe it has a different underlying disease?
Sarcoidosis is a chronic disease associated with an altered immune system function, resulting in the formation of granulomas (i.e. small inflammatory lumps). Granulomas can appear in many organs but are most common in the lymph nodes and the lungs.
Symptoms of the disease rarely appear suddenly - usually develop gradually fatigue, a sense of lack of energy, aches, dry eyes, cough, changes in the skin. The detailed disease picture depends on the localization of the lesions.
Various drugs have been used to treat sarcoidosis over the years, but the treatment results are not always satisfactory.
You do not mention what form of sarcoidosis was diagnosed in your mother - if it is a pulmonary form, i.e. the most common, then it is worth having her under the care of the Institute of Lung Diseases at ul. Płocka in Warsaw.
