Swollen ankles are usually caused by a lack of exercise, many hours spent at a desk. But what are itchy calves, severe heel pain, or calf cramps? If you have these symptoms, check what disease it is.
We often underestimate the leg ailments. When we experience itchingcalves , we suspect an allergy to the powder or mouthwash. When we feelheel pain- we blame uncomfortable shoes. And the reasons for these ailments can be completely different.
Calf itching
When it torments at night, it can be a symptom of liver disease. A change in the color of the calf skin to a bluish red color and an increase in temperature indicates the development ofthrombosis . In all cases, seek medical help.
Calf cramps
Most often they indicate a magnesium deficiency. Pain will be relieved by massages and the regular intake of magnesium with vitamin B, so that it is better absorbed. For massage, it is worth using ointments with extracts of grape leaves or horse chestnut. Spasm can also be a symptom of venous insufficiency, an announcement of varicose veins or myasthenia gravis, i.e. excessive fatigue of skeletal muscles. The cause of numbness and stiffness of the calves during rest may be the so-called restless leg syndrome, often associated with iron deficiency.
Severe heel pain
If, for example, there are no prints on it, the pain may be caused by the heel spur. It's a degeneration of the ankles that make up the heel. It is necessary to undergo orthopedic treatment and to wear heel relief inserts while walking.
Cold feet
Usually they signal problems with the circulatory system. The swelling around the ankles and the pale skin are similarly suspicious. But the cause of pain and swelling, especially in the morning, can also be rheumatic and degenerative diseases of the foot joints. When only the toe swells and hurts, there is a high probability of gout, a disease where urate crystals build up in the joint.
