To protect our eyes from fatigue and visual impairment, the workplace should be adequately illuminated. Here are some tips on what lighting is best for your eyes when reading, using the computer, or watching TV.

Our eyes are harmed not only by insufficient but also excessivelighting . It should be adapted to the function it is to fulfill.
To properly illuminate a 20 sq m living room, you need 300-400 W (5 bulbs with a power of 60 W). A modern solution is to connect the chandelier to the light intensity regulator, which allows you to dim or illuminate the glow of light bulbs.
For full regenerationeyesneed at least 8 hours of sleep. We sleep in a well-darkened room. If there is a lantern outside the window or neon lights are flashing, hang thick curtains or put on blinds. With penetrating light, even when we fall asleep, our eyes will still be alert, and this will not guarantee them a regenerating rest.
In the room where we work, the light should be diffused so that it does not reflect from objects we look at directly. The safest solution is to install mixed lighting, i.e. overhead lighting and local lighting above the desk.
When reading or sewing, use an additionallampto avoid unnecessary strain on your eyes. Place the lamp to the side and slightly to the rear. Keep the head at a distance of 30-40 cm from a book or needlework. The light of the lamp should not shine directly into the eyes. Warning! For right-handed people, the light source should be on the left side so that the light is not blocked by the hand.

Taking care of your eyes while working at the computer

Glasses who spend many hours at the computer should wear glasses with anti-reflective lenses.
The computer table top should be lit with a lamp with an opaque shade. The light then falls up and on the table top, but it does not dazzle the eyes and does not reflect from the keyboard. Otherwise, we will experience the so-called glare, which will have nothing to do with the flow of creative inspiration, but only with extreme eyestrain.
If our employer installed only fluorescent lamps, we must save our eyes from their effects. It is best to put an additional lamp with an ordinary bulb on the desk to slightly "break" the harsh lightfluorescent lamps.

Take care of your eyes while watching TV

  • We sit at least 2 meters in front of the screen.
  • Don't mindlessly stare at one point on the screen, your eyes should wander over it, glancing up and down. From time to time you have to blink your eyelids and peek off the screen.
  • The light in the room should be diffused.
  • When we spend a few hours a day in front of the TV set, let's put a lamp with a low-power bulb behind it, e.g. 25 W.
