Insulin resistance is a state in which the body is less sensitive to the effects of insulin, which results in a number of disorders, leading to a significant deterioration of he alth. It can develop in anyone. Symptoms of insulin resistance are quite characteristic and bothersome enough that they severely hinder everyday functioning. Which of them are the most common?

Insulin resistance is not a disease, but an element of the so-called metabolic syndrome. Disregarded, it can lead to the development of type 2 diabetes, as well as other diseases - polycystic ovary syndrome, atherosclerosis, and cardiovascular diseases. It is a myth that it only affects obese people - it can also develop in slim people, especially those with undiagnosed problems with internal organs, such as the liver. It also has a genetic background.

Insulin resistance can and must be treated, so if you have symptoms of insulin resistance, tell your doctor about them and ask for a referral for tests, especially insulin-glucose curve, i.e. an oral glucose load test with the accompanying measurement of insulin in the blood. Based on the results of the examination, the doctor will then calculate the so-called HOMA-IR indicator to confirm or exclude it.
