Scientists agree that the incidence of XYY syndrome is not influenced by genetic factors, because the chromosomal aberration that causes the disease is random and occurs at different times during sperm formation.
In the 1960s, after studies on prisoners, some scientists concluded that an extra Y chromosome was responsible for aggressive behavior. However, recent studies show that this is not the norm, and this type of behavior can only be found in about 1% of patients with XYY syndrome.
