Sometimes tooth extraction is a necessity. If we choose not to fill the gap, we run the risk that some consequences will not be possible to undo over time. Therefore, before the extraction takes place, the dentist should plan further treatment. There are several options: an implant, a bridge, i.e. a fixed denture that replenishes one or several teeth missing, or a removable denture. The choice depends on the condition of the remaining teeth, as well as the we alth of the wallet - prices range from several hundred zlotys to even 7,000.

Removing even one tooth is not only an aesthetic problem, but also a he alth problem. Therefore, the dentition gap must be filled as soon as possible. Check what the methods are.

Each cavity must be replaced

Losing teeth has serious consequences for beauty, but more importantly for he alth. The lack of even one tooth has a huge impact on the bite. This is because the stomatognathic system, i.e. bones, joints, muscles within the mouth and face, is constantly dynamic. Afterextractionthe remaining tooth moves towards the free space, skewing and tilting. When, for example, the lower tooth is removed, the upper one begins to slide out of the socket (along with the bone process) to close the gap left by the opposite tooth (Godon's effect). Incorrectly positioned teeth are more prone to caries, overstrain and quickly deteriorate, which in turn may lead to their loss. The consequence of missing teeth is also problems with chewing and grinding food, which in turn disrupts the digestive tract. The wrong positioning of the teeth can also cause degenerative changes in the temporomandibular joints, as well as be the cause of e.g. pain in the jaw, head or constant fatigue.

How to fill the gap after tooth extraction? There are several possibilities. The choice depends on the number of missing teeth, the condition of the remaining teeth, and the size of the wallet.

What after tooth extraction: implant

Implantis an artificial root on which a lost tooth is rebuilt. It is in the form of a titanium screw embedded in the jaw bone. The implant can be inserted immediately after extraction or 1-4 months after it. It is not worth delaying it, because after tooth extraction the bone in which it was embedded disappears, and this onehinders implantation and prolongs treatment (bone reconstruction is necessary).

Implantation is currently the best method of reconstructing a missing tooth. An artificial tooth behaves in the same way as a natural tooth, and thanks to the direct transfer of loads to the jaw bone, implants prevent bone loss. The advantage of implants is also their durability - they can be used for several dozen years.

Implant price : one implant costs 2-4 thousand. PLN, and an artificial tooth (implant and crown) - 4-7 thousand. PLN.

What after a tooth extraction: bridge

Most- is a permanent denture which replenishes the missing teeth of one or more teeth. It is made of several interconnected crowns mounted on pillars, which are own teeth (or implants) surrounding the gap. The installation of a porcelain bridge is possible when the abutment teeth are in good condition. In addition to the traditional bridge, it is also adhesive - on glass fiber. It works as a temporary solution for single defects. Does not require tooth grinding. Regardless of the materials used, bridges differ in appearance from natural teeth. In addition, they must be replaced after some time.

Bridge prices:a porcelain bridge costs PLN 400-1200 per tooth, and an adhesive bridge - PLN 300-600.

What after a tooth extraction: removable denture

Removable denturesis a removable restoration. They are used in the absence of several teeth or complete toothlessness. Removable dentures include: skeletal dentures (on a metal structure), partial and complete settling dentures (acrylic) and flexible dentures. The denture must be removed and cleaned every day. It should be modified every now and then, and usually a new one every 5 years. Another problem is the loss of bone under the prosthesis, which makes it difficult to stabilize it. In this case, the placement of implants will be effective - already 2-4 are enough to maintain the prosthesis.

Prices:NFZ refunds prosthetic treatment and making partial or complete dentures once every 5 years (the patient must be at least 5 teeth missing in one dental arch). The National He alth Fund also finances repairs every 2 years. In private clinics, partial dentures cost 500-1000 PLN, total dentures - 700-1200 PLN, skeletal dentures - 1000-2000 PLN, and flexible dentures - 800-1800 PLN.

How to proceed after tooth extraction?

  • Do not eat or drink for 2 hours.
  • You can apply cold compresses to your cheek to relieve pain and reduce swelling.
  • The mouth must not be rinsed or the teeth cleaned in the vicinity of the extraction site for 24 hours, as the clot in the socket is the only dressing of the wound. If it is rinsed out, maybedevelop the so-called dry socket - local bone inflammation caused by inappropriate healing of the extraction wound. It manifests itself with severe pain, fever and general weakness. The symptoms appear 2-3 days after the treatment.
  • Hot dishes and drinks should be avoided for 2 days and replaced with cool ones. It is not allowed to bite on the sensitive side. You should also refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol. You need to limit physical exertion.
  • If necessary, you can take over-the-counter painkillers, except aspirin (to thin the blood).
  • If you experience severe pain or fever after 2-3 days, see your dentist urgently.
