I have been treating my thyroid gland for over 3 years. When I started I had a TSH of 5.04, t4 - 1.1, t3 - 113. I started taking letrox 25 and my score improved to 2.95. The next one was 3.25. Another already 5.23. Then the doctor increased his dose of letrox - alternating between 25 and 50. The score improved to 2.25. After another six months, it rose to 3.01 - this is my last result and I think that the next one will be higher again. The attending physician stated that the result was still reasonably good and recommended continuing the same dose. He scheduled the next visit in six months. From the additional tests, I only had an ultrasound of the thyroid gland at the beginning of the treatment, which showed no changes. A friend of my mother had her thyroid removed and she was also checked regularly, and her doctor said that the tsh result should not exceed 2. And that it is not normal for the result to not normalize during such a period. I don't know what to think anymore. Should I see another doctor for advice? Because I have the impression that the one I am currently treating does not do everything that he should, and I am ashamed to ask my family doctor about it.
Hello, The treatment of hypothyroidism is a long-term process and achieving stabilization of hormonal indicators may be difficult even for an experienced specialist - there is nothing unusual about this fact. If you would like to find out more about your he alth condition, it is perfectly justified to consult a second doctor - however, I suspect that such a visit is not subject to the procedures of the National He alth Fund. In some countries there is an official second opinion procedure - however it is usually paid for by the patient, sometimes additional private insurance is provided by the so-called second opinion.
