Who can we call a drug addict? Most often, this is what we define as a person who regularly and frequently uses drugs. However, is the definition of a drug addict, in view of the variety of drugs available, still valid?

Social definition of a drug addict

In social terms a drug addict is a person who abuses drugs (remains in a state of periodic or chronic intoxication, caused by the repeated use of drugs in a natural or synthetic form) and has symptoms of drug addiction narcotic drugs (experiences he alth, social, legal, psychological problems).

Drug addiction in Polish law

The Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction is in force in Poland, which defines a drug addict who uses narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances or substitutes for purposes other than medical, which may have resulted in or developed the addiction of the organism.
Ancient Greek with the terms "narcosis" meant intoxication, bewilderment. As you can see, the history of the phenomenon is centuries old, but it was not until the beginning of the 20th century that the term "drug addiction" began to be used to describe a condition resulting from the abuse of certain pharmacological substances, and a "drug addict" to a person remaining in this state.

Symptoms of drug craving

Addiction is manifested by craving for drugs (headaches, abdominal pain, depressive states). An addicted person often has difficulty concentrating and is nervous. People with low self-esteem, with family or academic problems, and with a weak character are more likely to fall into a state of addiction. One of the most readily available intoxicants young people reach for is marijuana. To find out if your child is under the influence of marijuana, you can do a THC test.

Victims of drug addiction younger and younger

Terrifying statistics show that the most common victims of drug addiction are young people. Experts alert that the age of adolescentsreaching for drugs lowers - these are not only high school and college students, but also middle school and elementary school students. By carefully observing your own children, you can save them from becoming addicted. However, falling into paranoid looking for addiction symptoms can be counterproductive. The most important thing is mutual trust and honest conversation.

Drug addict or drug addict?

In the era of wide availability of chemicals of chemical origin, the concept of a drug addict has been extended to the use of other, not only traditional intoxicants, but also pharmacological (pharmacist) and toxic (toxic addict) substances. It is no longer enough to limit ourselves to the most common measures. Many over-the-counter medications (mainly tablets and syrups), ingested in doses greater than recommended, can cause hallucinogenic and stimulant conditions.

Important

One has to be very careful in calling anyone a drug addict. Occasional use of some of the narcotic drugs does not have to be evidence of addiction.
