In obese children and adolescents, anxiety disorders and depression are more common. Research on the relationship between excess body weight and emotional disorders in children and adolescents was carried out by scientists from the Swedish Karolinska Institute.

For 10 years, Swedish researchers compared the medical data of over 12,000 obese children and over 60,000 children. their peers with normal body weight. The analysis also included indicators such as: economic status of the family, migration routes, neuropsychiatric disorders and mental problems among people most closely related to the child. The study showed that the obesity disease itself is an independent risk factor for the development of anxiety and depression disorders in a child. After the analysis, it turned out that girls with obesity are 43% and boys are 33% obese. more prone to these mental he alth problems than their lean peers.

Scientists from the Karolinska Institute are conducting further research into obesity-related mental disorders in children and adolescents.
