Two years ago, my family doctor gave me atenolol and belergot for pressure surges. The drugs worked, I have been taking them for two years. However, he is nervous because I read on the leaflet that belergot is addictive, and the doctor constantly confirms me that it is safe and I can take it for the rest of my life. I am 56 years old. Are you sure I won't get addicted and is it safe?

Bellergot contains phenobarbital (i.e. barbiturate, this group of drugs can be addictive, but there is very little of it, 20 mg) and ergotamine (ergot alkaloid). The warning about the possibility of addiction is a bit exaggerated, taking in therapeutic doses can last, if necessary, for a very long time - the doctor is right. Regards!
