Antibiotics win against bacterial infections, but unfortunately they also have side effects. The most common side effects of antibiotics are diarrhea, intestinal inflammation, thrush, aphthae, and vaginal mycosis. How to prevent these unpleasant side effects of antibiotics?
The side effects of antibioticsare thatantibioticsdo not distinguish between good bacteria and bad bacteria - they destroy them all. Our mucous membranes, devoid of natural protection, become the gateway to harmful microorganisms, especially fungi.
Antibiotic side effects: vaginal mycosis
One of the side effects of antibiotic treatment is vaginal mycosis. Vaginal mycosis occurs because antibiotics destroy the natural bacterial flora, especially lactobacilli. If you want to avoid vaginal mycosis, take probiotics during antibiotic treatment (orally and / or vaginally) and take extra care of your intimate hygiene.
Antibiotic side effects: allergy
The most common allergy is penicillin, but virtually any drug can cause an allergic reaction. You should inform your doctor about any unusual effects of the drug, and the appearance of a rash or dizziness should prompt us to contact him quickly. The most dangerous form of antibiotic allergy is anaphylactic shock, which can even lead to death.
Diarrhea, intestinal inflammation, thrush, antibiotic aphthae
Orally administered antibiotics often destroy the beneficial flora of the digestive tract. The mouth can develop mouth ulcers, thrush and even fungal infections. By destroying the gut flora, it causes diarrhea, inflammation of the gut (e.g. pseudomembranous enteritis) and general nutrient absorption problems. These problems can be prevented by using probiotics during antibiotic treatment. But be careful, we do not take both tablets at the same time, because the antibiotic will destroy the good bacteria - we take probiotics in the middle of the interval between the antibiotic doses. In addition, it is very helpful to consume fermented milk products during treatment with an antibiotic: kefir and yogurt.
Antibiotics damage hearing, liver and other organs
The side effects of some antibiotics can be very serious, so decide on themthe application should be taken after considering all the pros and cons. There are antibiotics that work:
- ototoxic - they damage hearing, especially in young children, e.g. gentamicin, amikacin, neomecin,
- hepatotoxic - have a negative effect on the liver, e.g. doxycycline, novobiocin,
- nephrotoxicosis - impair the functioning of the kidneys, e.g. colistin,
- neurotoxic - they damage the nervous system, e.g. colistin,
- toxic to bone marrow - e.g. novobiocin, detromycin.
To keep the antibiotic safe
- Never use antibiotics on your own (left over from treatment or prescribed to someone else).
- Observe the times of taking the drug, do not reduce the doses or stop the treatment when you feel better (germs must be eliminated completely, so that the disease does not recur). Premature discontinuation may also result in the development of bacterial resistance to the specific drug.
- Do not take the drug with coffee, citrus juices, milk or milk drinks, as they hinder its absorption. Low-mineralized water is best. Most antibiotics should be taken one hour before or two after eating.
- Take preparations that protect the natural bacterial flora - probiotics (from the first day of antibiotic therapy and a few days after the end of the treatment), no later than 2 hours before taking the drug and not earlier than 2 hours after taking it. Women who are prone to vaginal infections should also use vaginal probiotics and oral antifungal tablets.
- Include fermented milk products in your diet that, in addition to lactic acid bacteria, contain probiotics, and plain yogurt, kefir, because they provide lactic acid bacteria that stimulate immunity. Allow several hours between eating them and taking your medicine.
- Discontinue the treatment with iron and calcium supplements, as well as medications used to treat hyperacidity - they weaken the effect of the drug. Vitamins are a good breeding ground for bacteria, you will reach for them after completing the treatment.
