Rowanberry (Rowanberry) tincture - properties

Before we get into the properties of rowan tincture, find out what we are dealing with. Rowan grows all over Poland. Rowan fruits have a bitter-sour taste and can be harvested from late August to winter, when they are already red. They are dried spread out in a thin layer (preferably at approx. 40 ° C). They contain vitamin C and vitamin P facilitating its absorption, as well as provitamins A, vitamins E, K and B3. Fruits contain sugar, sorbose, tannins and pectins.

Raw fruit is inedible , not only because of its bitter taste, but also because it contains a poisonous ingredient (parasorbic acid). However, after freezing or immersing in boiling water for a while (blanching), they lose their poisonous properties and bitter taste.

Rowan fruits are best used to make preserves, including rowan tincture, also known as mountain ash. The preserves contain twice as much carotene as carrots!

Rowan has a slight diuretic effect and can therefore help prevent urinary tract infections. It has a positive effect on the mucous membranes and the digestive system.

It is usually used in mixtures with other herbs. Parasorbic acid in rowan has laxative properties.

Rowanberry (Rowanberry) tincture - ingredients

  • 30 grams of rowan fruit
  • 3-4 dried dates
  • 10 raisins
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar
  • after100 ml of spirit 96% and brandy
  • 0.8 l of vodka

Rowanberry (Rowanberry) tincture - recipe

  1. Wash the fruit, remove the stalks, add sugar, spirit and half of the vodka.
  2. Put warm.
  3. After 4 weeks, drain the alcohol, pour the rest of the vodka over the fruit and set aside for a week.
  4. Drain, combine with previously poured alcohol and brandy.
  5. After a week, filter, pour into bottles, and leave in the cold for half a year.
