Facial reflexotherapy is pressing the right points on the face - it restores energy balance. The zones and points on the face are linked by thousands of nerve endings to organs and systems throughout the body. By massaging and pressing points on the face, we have an impact on distant organs and systems. Therapeutic facial massage based on reflexology calms down, relieves stress, helps with depression and sleep problems.
Face massagebased on reflexology, we often do it instinctively: we massage the bridge of the nose, press the back of the nose with our hands, massage the temples with our fingertips. It is no coincidence that we touch these places instinctively. In this way, we stimulate specific points and unblock areas that impede the free flow of blood. Such a face massage brings relief and improves well-being. This relationship was first observed and described by Chinese doctors who have been using therapeutic facial massage for centuries. Like the foot and hand massage, it uses the knowledge of reflexes - points on the body that correspond to specific internal organs.Facial reflexologyis a natural therapy aimed at calming down the body. The best results are achieved by a massage performed by the other person.
What does a face massage look like?
I am lying on a therapeutic bed covered with a blanket. Iwona Ochnicka, a certified reflexologist, rubs my face with fragrant lavender-marjoram oil, but starts with a relaxing neck massage. Then it goes to the face. Gently presses and massages with your fingertips. Her fingers travel from her chin, along the roots of her hair, to the center of her face. Millimeter by millimeter. Contrary to the treatment on the feet and hands, which can be painful, face massage gives only pleasant sensations. - It is not as effective as foot massage when it comes to healing effects, but it is a great way to de-stress and restore emotional balance - explains Iwona Ochnicka. As recommended, I shut down. I leave the questions for later. My senses register pleasant sensations - the sounds of relaxing music, the soft light of a s alt lamp, the scent of lavender … The reality recedes, the tension disappears. A pleasant feeling of relaxation overwhelms me. For almost an hour I am on the verge of sleep and wakefulness, and a few times for a moment I really fall asleep. After it's finished, I lie for a while longer, slowly returning to reality. - The right side of your faceshe was tighter. Is something going on on this side of the body? - the therapist asks. I look at her surprised. I have a problem with my right shoulder, but I didn't think it was reflected in my face. Mrs. Iwona immediately explains: - During the massage I feel tense places. They correspond to some parts of the body or organs. I massage them and slowly unlock them - he says.
How does reflexotherapy work?
To put it simply, reflexotherapy works like acupuncture. In oppressed places, blood begins to circulate better, and this - according to the Chinese meridian theory - restores the correct flow of energy. A energized body means better organ function and relief for the nervous system. The body is a precise mechanism - everything is interconnected, dependent on each other. Oppression in one place causes a reaction in another - seemingly unrelated. Oriental doctors hundreds of years ago demonstrated the dependence between particular places. They created a body map on which they precisely marked the corresponding points. Reflexology is therefore based on the old Chinese knowledge of meridians (energy flow channels) and on the much younger knowledge of reflexes, developed at the beginning of the 20th century by the American ENT specialist William Fitzgerald. Facial reflexology has recently been developed by Danish doctors who created the Institute of Reflexology in Denmark.
ImportantFacial reflexotherapy is helpful for emotional and mental disorders.
- It calms emotions, relieves tension and stress.
- It lowers the level of anxiety, helps with nervous problems and depression.
- Accelerates the regeneration of a tired body, adds energy and zest for life.
- Helps with sleep problems.
- The effect of a series of treatments may be deep relaxation, a feeling of distance and inner peace, greater ease in solving problems.
Reflexotherapy - forget about stress
- When carrying out the procedure, I do not strictly stick to the reflex or meridian map. It is difficult to determine precisely the points corresponding to the organs, as is the case with surgery on the feet. The aim of the procedure is not to treat a specific disease, but to calm the nervous system, restore the feeling of inner balance and peace, and a positive attitude towards life - explains Iwona Ochnicka. After one massage, the feeling of balance and distance to the world lasts only a few hours. After a series of treatments, such a state may accompany us for a long time. Regularly repeating the massage extends the time of feeling calm. Relaxing the whole body helps us concentrate better and forget about stress for a longer time.
do itnecessarilyFace auto-massage
On the face, you can easily find a few main points, the massaging of which will bring quick relief, for example in headaches, runny nose, fatigue, severe stress and nervous tension. These points can be massaged independently. It is important that the massage lasts at least a few minutes and is repeated regularly throughout the day. So when you feel bored with work or your head starts to ache, take your eyes off the computer monitor for a moment, close your eyes and massage or gently massage the right place on your face. The effect will not be the same as after the treatment with a professional, but the massage will certainly bring temporary relief.
Reflexotherapy and traditional medicine
Chinese knowledge does not contradict traditional medicine. It is known that the face and head have thousands of nerve endings, a rich network of blood vessels and tiny muscles. Irritation of skin receptors causes a series of impulses to the central nervous system, which in turn are transmitted to the circulation regulation centers. Blood vessels dilate, the amount of oxygen in the body increases, which speeds up the metabolism. From a medical point of view, by massaging the face and head, we improve blood circulation, relax tense muscles, drain lymph into the lymphatic vessels, and improve skin tone. Regardless of whether we believe in the meridians, reflexes or simply in the beneficial effects of massage, the effect of the treatment is an improvement in well-being.
