Psoriasis is an incurable disease. Patients can, however, fight for remission, i.e. for the withdrawal of symptoms of the disease. Unfortunately, remission is only temporary and it often precedes the patient's deterioration. Therefore, patients should know how to extend the remission period of psoriasis.

How do I extend the remission period of psoriasis? This question is probably asked by all people struggling with this incurable disease. Psoriasis is a skin disease that greatly affects quality of life, as is the case with diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and ischemic heart disease. With a bit of luck, in misfortune, no one will notice that we have psoriasis. Sometimes only a person passed on the street will be surprised that in the heat we wear a long-sleeved blouse and trousers. But not everyone is so gentle with the disease. It happens that visible parts of the body are affected with psoriasis, and then the environment is kept away from patients.

The symptoms of psoriasis are red patches covered with silvery scales (psoriasis vulgaris). If we scratch it, droplets of blood appear (Auspitz's symptom), because in the affected areas, the so-called eruptions, blood vessels move upwards, just below the epidermis surface. It happens that the skin cracks, forming small wounds that are easy to infect. Sometimes purulent pustules (pustular psoriasis) are formed instead of spots. The eruptions can be tiny, a few millimeters in diameter, other times they merge into large spots that, in severe cases, can cover most of the body. Eruptions usually appear on the elbows, knees, head, but also often on the hands, feet, buttocks, back and face. Some patients experience itching and pain (with cracks in the skin, pustules, and especially with psoriatic arthritis).

How to extend the remission period of psoriasis?

  1. Make sure your skin is always well moisturized and lubricated. Therefore, when washing your body, choose cosmetics that will not dry it or irritate it, preferably emollients, e.g. from the Lipikar, Emolium, Balneum series.
  2. Within 3 minutes after washing, apply a cosmetic for very dry skin or an emollient.
  3. Protect the skin against injuries, cuts, even minor abrasions.
  4. Don't underestimate the statesinflammatory. A sick tooth, sinusitis or bladder inflammation may cause the disease to recur.
  5. Pay attention to where you eat. Food poisoning bacteria cause psoriasis to spread.
  6. Do not wear body-oppressive clothing. The result of wearing a tight bra or strings sticking between the buttocks is the appearance of flashes.
  7. If the sun helps fight disease, sunbathe, of course in moderation. It's best to combine this pleasure with swimming in the sea, but more s alty than the B altic Sea. The sun, climate and s alt water can do wonders, especially when you make it to the Dead Sea. If this is impossible, take advantage of a stay in Polish sanatoriums treating psoriasis, e.g. in Busko Zdrój or Goczałkowice Zdrój. You can also use Dead Sea s alt for bathing, which supports the treatment of psoriasis.
  8. Find ways to calm down, relieve nervous tension. Stress exacerbates the course of the disease.
  9. Do not treat psoriasis as an injustice that cannot be fought against. The feeling of futility in efforts can lead to depression, which weakens the effects of medications.
  10. Learn to enjoy life. Joy and contentment help you fight disease. When you feel worse, remember all the good times.
