Magnesium deficiency means the concentration of this element in the serum below 0.65 mmol / l. The basic method of diagnosing hypomagnesaemia is a laboratory test, which measures the amount of magnesium in the blood. However, can a magnesium deficiency show symptoms?
Too little magnesium in the blood is called hypomagnesaemia. The most common reasons for the deficiency of this element include:
- diet low in products containing magnesium,
- malabsorption,
- excessive loss of magnesium through the kidneys,
- hormonal disorders,
- chronic diarrhea
- and vomiting.
The correct concentration of magnesium in the blood may not exclude its deficiency. All because it is mainly found in cells, and only a small percentage of magnesium is found in the plasma.
