I work at ZOL. Recently, the boss informed us that, as nurses, we will inform families about the death of their members. Can the boss order us to provide such information?
YES. The person indicated in the organizational regulations of the medical entity (in this case, the Care and Treatment Institution) may be required to inform the family about their patient's death. In such a case, the nurse of the ZOL, who performs medical activities in the form of inpatient and round-the-clock he alth services, immediately notifies the treating physician or the doctor on duty about the death of the patient staying in the entity's enterprise. After carrying out an examination, the doctor confirms the death and its cause and issues a death certificate. In the case of post-mortem examination, the cause of death is determined after it has been performed. A person indicated in the organizational regulations of the entity, e.g. a nurse, immediately after confirming the death of the deceased person notifies the person or institution of the death of the deceased person. After the death certificate is issued by the doctor, the nurse immediately forwards it to the office of the entity's enterprise. The nurse then draws up a card for referral of the body to a cold store and puts an identifier made of a ribbon, canvas or plastic on the wrist or feet of the deceased person.
