For example, in Olsztyn, a borscht elimination program was undertaken, which is not an easy task, as the plant spreads easily and occupies other areas. 8 plant clusters and 9 "suspects" sites were located in Olsztyn. Landowners were called to eliminate borscht.
- Owners or administrators of generally accessible areas with Sosnowski's borscht are obliged to eliminate this plant. - says Kamil Sułkowski, spokesman for the Municipal Police in Olsztyn - in accordance with Art. 72 of the Code of Petty Offenses, anyone who, against his / her duty, fails to adequately secure a place that is dangerous to human life or he alth, is subject to arrest or a fine. What is more, the punishment may also meet those people who consciously grow borscht in their own garden.
In Poland, Sosnowski's borscht came from Russia - it is also sometimes called Stalin's revenge. During the Stalinist era, it began to be cultivated on a large scale, as it was to be used as feed for cattle. However, it was not used and it spread very quickly throughout Poland.
Borscht is dangerous, it causes severe burns to the skin - especially after exposure to the sun. After contact with the plant, it is best to see a doctor and rinse the contact area with water.
