Hello, I am 36 years old, 11 months ago I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids, the largest was 4 cm. At the moment, the myoma has grown to 5.5 cm. Medical diagnosis - myomatous uterus. The doctor suggested removing the uterus or inserting a Mirena device. Let me add that I do not want to have any more children, but I also do not want to have my uterus removed. I do not know if Mirena is a really good idea, because I smoke cigarettes, and I read that the IUD has many side effects, such as prolonged bleeding, spotting, weight gain - I suffer from postoperative hypothyroidism and I gained 20 kg, so I am afraid of further weight, hair loss, etc. I would like to add that I have always had heavy 7-day menstruation, for 2 years it was painful, I associate it with the formation of fibroids. Is it possible to remove the fibroids themselves without removing the uterus? I am asking for advice because I do not know what to do. Regards
Mirena does not heal uterine fibroids, it heals heavy menstrual bleeding. You know the adverse effects of Mirena. It does not mean that they will occur, but there is such a risk. You can sniff out the fibroids. The operation of enucleation of myomas is an operation consisting in their removal, but it does not mean that new ones will not start growing in some time.
The fibroids are removed, not the tendency to form them. There are indications for the surgical treatment of uterine fibroids, you gave too little data to know if you have indications for this procedure. I would advise you to clarify all your doubts during the visit to the doctor.
