Osteopathy is one of the methods of overcoming pain in pregnancy. Back pain, difficulty breathing, joint overload - these ailments are known to most women expecting a baby. In such situations, it is worth visiting an osteopath, especially since taking medications in this state is not recommended.

Osteopathy will help with pregnancy problems

Osteopathy primarily treats ailments of the osteoarticular and muscular systems, i.e. backache, neck, shoulder, nape, pelvic pain, discopathy, sciatica, and tendinitis. It also effectively deals with neuralgia, headaches, dizziness, and migraines.

It is also used as an auxiliary in the treatment of digestive system disorders (flatulence, heartburn), as well as stress urinary incontinence. Osteopathy helps with fluid stagnation in the limbs. Interesting effects are achieved by working with the diaphragm, which results in patients with a feeling of lightness of breathing, "throwing the weight off the shoulders".

So this method seems to be perfect for future mothers who are struggling with many of the above-mentioned problems. Pregnancy is a time when major changes occur in the body: the child grows, the breasts and abdomen are significantly enlarged, the body's center of gravity changes, and the physiological curves of the spine deepen. These changes cause stretching and overloading of muscles and joints, and as a result - symptoms of pain, difficulty breathing.

Do you prefer manual therapy over medications? Go to the osteopath!

Tensions in the pelvic area and diaphragm can obstruct the flow of venous blood to the heart from the lower body and cause or worsen existing varicose veins in the legs. Most often, pregnant women suffer from acute pains in the spine, neck, nape and pelvis, attacks of sciatica, pain in the lower abdomen and symphysis pubis, headaches and dizziness, and carpal tunnel. In all these cases, it is worth going to an osteopath for help, especially since taking medications is now inadvisable. Osteopathy can also relieve nausea and heartburn resulting from tensions in the diaphragm.

Manual therapy will help you prepare for childbirth

Moreover, manual therapy helps to prepare the body for childbirth, especially when the pregnant woman experiences excessive tension in the muscles and ligaments of the pelvis caused by injuries within thecoccyx, sacrum or lumbar spine. Osteopathy reduces the muscle tension in the pelvic area, thanks to which the child's entry into the world becomes much easier. It can also be effective in releasing adhesions and reducing postoperative scars, which may be useful after a caesarean section. It also works well in the treatment of perinatal injuries in children.

Can a pregnant woman trust an osteopathy?

Manual treatments used by osteopaths are safe, gentle and painless. The main principle of osteopathy is painless work with the patient. There is no question of violent treatments used by masseurs or spine adjusters.

The condition is, of course, the use of the help of a qualified specialist, holding a diploma from one of the recognized European schools for the preparation of osteopaths. According to the EFO regulations, osteopathy can only be practiced by doctors and physiotherapists who have completed the postgraduate training system (minimum 5 years or 1000 hours of theoretical, practical and clinical classes).

Osteopaths in Poland

This profession has not been registered in Poland yet, but there is a group of therapists who have trained abroad. Academies of osteopathy in Bydgoszcz and Wrocław have also been operating for several years, and the Society of Polish Osteopaths has been operating since 2005.
