There is no substitute for breast milk. It is easily digestible, contains all the necessary ingredients for a little person, and the presence of antibodies protects against diseases.Breastfeedingcreates a special bond, allows you to learn from each other. Your nights are calmer: the baby will satisfy his hunger at any moment, and mom does not run around the kitchen preparing the mixture. By giving a toddler a breast, it will be easier to lose unnecessary kilograms and you will recover faster after giving birth (breastfeeding promotes a narrowing of the uterus). And finally - it is more economical. You don't spend money on mixes, bottles, teats, and steamers.

How to deal withfood loadthat can lead to stagnation or even inflammation of the breasts? Is my milk valuable? A young mother has many questions and doubts. The most accessible source of information is a pediatrician and a midwife. But the best solution is to make an appointment atlactation clinic . There, a specialist, a lactation consultant, will examine the baby and you, correct mistakes, advise on how to proceed. Breastfeeding: what does a visit to a lactation clinic look like?

You have to make an appointment with a lactation advisor. The visit lasts a long time, even 2 hours. You need to come with your baby and take with you: two nappies, a baby's he alth book and medical records (if you have had breast problems before or if the baby suffers from a medical condition). Dad should also come to visit. He will take care of the baby when you are examined, he will learn a lot, teach and then be able to support you at home.make an appointment at home and at the first time it seems like the best solution. The child is not stressed by the view of a strange environment, and you are more at ease. At the beginning, the consultant will ask about the problem: what are you coming with, what bothers you, what are your ailments. He will ask about the frequency of feeding, about the behavior of the baby, about your diet. Then it will weigh and carefully examine the baby. Thanks to this, it will be known whether, for example, the reluctance to suck on one of the breasts is only related to habituation, or whether, for example, torticollis makes it difficult for the newborn to empty both breasts. Finally, it is time for breastfeeding under the watchful eye of a specialist. In order for your lactation consultant to correctly assess the situation, it should be done as usual. The specialist will correct the mistakes, and then show the correct procedure and suggest better solutions. After the instruction, the baby is taken care of by the father and the mother is examined. The consultant looks at the breasts, teaches them how to massage them, shows the natural way of expressing with the hand by hand. She will advise you on the most convenient positions for feeding at a given moment, taking into account the mother's postpartum problems and the type of problem she reported to the clinic with. It is worth knowing that lactation clinics often cooperate with a whole team of specialists: gynecologist, surgeon, pediatrician, oncologist dietitian, allergist. If it turns out that you need to visit one of them, you will be informed about it.

Where to go for help

Telephone numbers and addresses for the clinic can be found in the telephone book, on the Internet or in the child's he alth book (usually stamps with the telephone number for lactation clinics in your city are stamped at the maternity ward of the hospital where you gave birth).

Breastfeeding: necessary equipment

A lactation clinic is often a place where you can get the equipment you need for feeding: a special pillow, nursing pads, protective covers, breast pumps, tea to strengthen the lactation process, feeding glasses, ointments and creams for cracked nipples, etc. Here you can also buy specialized devices that are used to stimulate lactation. The clinic can also work as a rental facility. Why a permanent baby scale or an electric breast pump at home? They come in handy, but once in a while. Renting them is a more convenient and cheaper solution. The costs are not high: PLN 3-5 per night (sometimes you also pay a deposit, which is returned when returning the device).
