My boss offered me a job in a remote system. And so, most of the duties were performed without much supervision by the employer, because what counted was the effect of my work and timeliness, so when I found out that I could do my work at home and appear in the office three times a month at team meetings, I was very happy about it. Unfortunately, my friend, who runs her own business, scared me that working at home is not as much of a fairy tale as it seems to me. Now I was starting to wonder if I should take advantage of my boss's offer. What should I pay attention to when considering switching from working in the office to working remotely from home?

Remote work system is a great convenience, but also an additional responsibility. Not everyone is able to maintain a balance between professional and private life when both spheres have one address. When deciding on such a solution, it is worth looking at several areas

Rules for working remotely at home

The workplace should be a separate space dedicated to professional duties. Designate zones where you never work, such as a bedroom or a couch where you usually relax. This maneuver will help you keep your balance.

Agree with your household members on the rules of your home office. Set aside hours when you work and you are not allowed to be disturbed. It is worth considering whether you receive private calls during working hours. Resigning from checking private e-mail or social networks at this time will also allow you to focus on work and effectively perform planned tasks.

The luxury of a comfortable home outfit is a great advantage of remote work. However, in order not to obstruct your tasks, make sure that it is not too "home". Convenience yes, but if your work requires telephone contacts with customers, you will be much more effective in a comfortable, but still a bit formal, outfit than, for example, in a bathrobe.

Controlling yourself at home is much more difficult than in the office. Consider incorporating structure into your work, it will increase your effectiveness. Working from home alone, you have to deal with your motivation, schedule and the temptation to postpone tasks. It is hardly possible to remain effective without self-control. Try to rationally distribute tasks, createplans, to-do lists for the day, week, month. These are simple methods but very effective.

When deciding to work from home, it is worth answering the question: what actually motivates me? This knowledge will allow you to start and finish the task in a situation where the surroundings will tempt you with going for a walk or an interesting TV program. It would also be worth taking a look at your predispositions, because in home conditions people who can work in isolation and do not need intensive social contacts will cope better. Working in a remote system may be an opportunity for development, but the basis for effectiveness in such conditions is a well-organized workplace and clear rules in the home office.
