Sauna with massage, madness in a nightclub and internet replaced a walk and an evening with a book on your lap. Psychologists are sounding the alarm: we can hardly rest anymore! We present ways of he althy relaxation and the benefits of rest.
A study recently published by the German magazine "Vital" shows that three-quarters of women and over 60 percent. men in Germany cannot "reset" and prefer to spend their free time afterworkfor anything but relaxation.
The feeling of doing nothing during the week stresses them to such an extent that instead of having a clear mind and relaxation, there is tiring and prolonged tension. A shortrestneeds only 19 percent during the day. women and 25 percent. men in Germany. For the rest, relaxation leads to frustration and, in extreme cases, even to fury. The Germans catch their breath only during the weekend. Unless, of course, they are not working, which happens quite often. Such conclusions were drawn from an online survey by scientists from the University of Physical Education in Cologne.
Relax in the rhythm of jogging
In order not to go crazy and to maintain a he althy distance to the work at hand, specialists recommend at least half an hour of relaxation during the day. It is best if we can afford a siesta during working hours, preferably between 14 a 16. It's worth taking a break from work every three hours and looking out the window thoughtlessly for a few minutes, or go for a coffee at the bar, instead of at a hurry, at the vending machine. If this is impossible, try to rest immediately after coming from work. Otherwise, the stresses of the day will turn into permanent tension. And the body may not be able to cope with such baggage. The only way to knock out stress is to balance what we need to do with what we want to do with our lives. Scientists from Cologne recommend, among others relaxing with music (Baroque music is said to have a particularly calming effect, but choosing the right music is a very individual matter). If music alone is not enough, add physical exertion to it. For minds overloaded with all day thinking, running, swimming, or cycling can do wonders. Especially if you take an MP3 player with your favorite songs for a morning jog or an evening ride.
According to an expertBarbara Baranowicz,a therapist from the Professional Aid CenterPoles also cannot rest. More and more people go to therapy offices - the reason is overwork, exhaustion, a few years of absence of holidays (short vacation trips or extended weekends will not replace a 2-week holiday without business phones). Instead of going to yoga or swimming pool after work, we go home in the evening and sit down at the computer again. It is just an apparent rest and relaxation. Similarly, clubbing, regardless of the nature of the venue and music, cuts off from the natural environment and the daily cycle of activity / relaxation. The fast pace of work means that we treat moments of relaxation as something inappropriate, we feel out of hand by "doing nothing". Paradoxically, rest makes us tired instead of regenerating. Only that sooner or later the organism will ask for time for itself.
Consequences of not relaxing
For busy and stressed Europeans or Americans, traditional forms of relaxation are no longer sufficient. They learn to rest in specialized psychoanalytical sessions. According to the therapist, Christophe Andre, most of the people attending the session are not able to deal with problems that a few years ago were considered relatively trivial and easy to solve. Helplessness and powerlessness to make any decisions are all the result of chronic exhaustion and nerves that are tense like ties. The Chartered Management Institute report compiled among British managers shows that almost everyone works much longer than they have to, and almost half of the 60 hours a week are spent at work. What are the consequences of this? Chronic insomnia, muscle tension, unproductivity, and increasing concentration problems. It was for them, among others, that a real oasis of relaxation and tranquility was created in London a few months ago. In the oasis, you can listen to birds singing, inhale fresh oxygen or simply indulge in blissful (not for everyone) doing nothing. By staying in the sauna, you can get rid of excess toxins from the body, but also deal with pain effectively. All because of the high temperature prevailing in it. For exhausted, stressed minds, it is difficult to find a better way to calm down than oxygen therapy. Intended for practically everyone, regardless of gender, age, profession or he alth condition. Preferably in a lush park with trees. Ladies and gentlemen, time for a deep breath!
