"You should buy a comfortable bed to relax forever," said the doctor Martyna, who suffered a spine fracture and spinal cord injury in a car accident. It was three years ago. Today, Martyna Żydek, blogger and life fitter, wears new "scales" and is an inspiration for other people with disabilities.
When time has stopped …
On July 24 this year, the Earth has circled the Sun for the third time since time stopped for her and then suddenly changed gear. Martyna Żydek was 23 years old, her life was fast, but it looked normal. She lived in Gdańsk. She associated the future with sport. She wanted to become a personal trainer. She practiced the barbell squat and the deadlift.
In the summer of 2016, she decided to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Gdańsk and visit her parents. She got into the car of the driver's private car, who often took travelers with him and had only good opinions on the Internet. After a slow ride, she fell asleep in the back seat. She woke up suddenly hearing the boy behind the wheel swearing loudly. She did not pass out. She saw everything. Oncoming car forced priority. The car she was driving in overturned. She stopped feeling the body from the breast down. Then she saw people running out of the car that followed them. They took care of her.
She found out later that she was lucky. The first rescuers included a firefighter and a doctor. Of all the injured, only she survived the accident. First, Martyna goes to a hospital in Częstochowa. The diagnosis leaves no illusions: broken spine, damaged spinal cord, no feeling in the legs. "You should buy a comfortable bed for an endless relaxation" - Martyna hears from the doctor.
The girl doesn't acknowledge this. She does not want to be in a place where they have already condemned her. She fights for her to be transferred to the Polish Center for Functional Rehabilitation in Krakow and wins. There they give her hope. Since then, Martyna has been practicing a constant "life all-kill". She fights with the absurdities faced by people with disabilities, with an insurance company that does not want to pay the money owed to her for rehabilitation and her own weakness.
Wheelchair but not disabled
For three years Martyna has been describing her fight for he alth on Facebook.
"I'm drivingblog. Blog of a disabled girl, but I want to write about the fact that I am not disabled at all (and I am so irritated by the smiles of people who would NEVER SMILE FOR ME if I walked). Perhaps I am disabled for people who have never met me and who can see me move. I want to write that despite the fact that I am in a wheelchair, I will never give up !!! ".
And just like the followers of Forrest Gump who were running, although she moves slower - by a balcony or in a wheelchair - more and more people also come to Martyna. And those who find themselves in a similar situation are after the accident - they like, write, ask, admire and imitate her bravery and tenacity. She didn't think she could become something like a disabled internet celebrity, but she is. - I spend a lot of time answering people's questions, talking about what they can do for themselves. Even if I wanted to, I cannot withdraw now, because I would fail those for whom I am a model or I give hope - says Martyna. His goal is simple: he wants to walk. When she gets to her feet, she will work. That's what she assumed. Then he wants to help people with disabilities after accidents. The question is not whether it will be so, but when. Martyna sees no other option.
Martyna moves on new "scales"
Today Martyna dreams of implanting spine implants. It is made in the USA. It costs up to 500,000. dollars. Unimaginable, but Martyna is already collecting money. As a result of intensive rehabilitation, her whole body feeling has returned, mainly deep, thanks to the surgery it will be even better.
"I tell you, many barriers will be broken this year" - he announces on his blog. Another of them rains in February - Martyna begins to walk at the balcony in orthoses. They are heavy, uncomfortable, clunky, so Martyna finds a company in Białystok that undertakes to make ultra-modern "scales" for her at an affordable price. The company "leaves the price" seeing Martyna's fortitude and determination. To raise money, Martyna made a fundraiser on FB and set up a 1 percent account. Such orthoses cost tens of thousands of zlotys.
Braces are a form of walking apparatus. These Martyns are made of a carbon fiber weave. The same from which, for example, elements of airplanes are made. The new Martyna orthoses are therefore three times lighter than the regular ones. Such "scales" are always made to individual order. They are personalized, adjusted to the joints, joints, tibia length, etc. First, a test model is created, then, if it works in practice - the final apparatus.
For the first time Martyna put on new "scales" on June 6th. On your ownblogging on FB, she wrote that day: “They are the BEST, ultra light, they fulfill the functions I wanted. It was worth waiting. Thank you all! Jaaaaaaram sieeea !!!!!! I GO SLOWLY, BUT I DO NOT BACK NEVER ". Martyna goes on a further route. She has to learn to walk again. But who can do it, if not her.
