Anti-smog tablets are tablets that are designed to cleanse the body of toxins inhaled from the air, argue the producers of this type of supplements. So much in theory. What is the real effect of anti-smog tablets? It turns out that pharmaceutical companies have decided to earn money from smog and the anti-smog tablets they produce are pure marketing gimmicks, and doctors warn against consuming them.
Anti-smog tablets , i.e.smog tablets , are dietary supplements which - as the producers argue - effectively neutralize the effects of exhaling polluted air: smog, smoke, fumes, dust. What is the real effect of smog tablets? Doctors point out that smog pills were invented to drive the business and there is no scientific evidence of their effectiveness.
Anti-smog tablets (against smog) - action
How exactly do anti-smog tablets work? As can be seen from the leaflet, the tablets contain "oligomeric procyanidins, so-called OPCs, derived from maritime pine bark extract". It can be read further that "OPCs are compounds with high antioxidant potential". The supplement is vitamins and zinc, i.e. substances with a synergistic effect with OPC.
The price of anti-smog tablets is about PLN 24 for 30 pcs.
OPC is a class of polyphenols and flavonoids that are found, among others, in in berries, citrus, cocoa or grape seed extract. Indeed, these compounds have many he alth properties - they show not only strong antioxidant activity and unique ability to remove free radicals, but also antibacterial, antiviral, anti-cancer, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties.1OPC may be helpful in the treatment of type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance.
They also protect the circulatory system, as they are compounds that affect blood vessels through their antioxidant activity and influence on elastase. In addition, they show statistically significant anti-aggregation activity of platelets.1These are just some of the proven he alth properties of OPC.
If you take a closer look at the ingredients, you will find out that 1 capsule contains - in addition to OPC from coastal pine extract - vitamin C, vitamin E, B vitamins, and zinc,m altodextrin and other excipients.
Anti-smog tablets are a marketing gimmick
It may seem that anti-smog tablets have he alth-promoting substances. The thing is that smog pills are dietary supplements, and these - unlike drugs - do not have to be tested, and thus - it is not known what their actual composition is and whether they work at all. Therefore, supplement manufacturers cannot write that the supplement "heals" and hence such terms as "neutralizes".
There are no research results that would confirm that anti-smog tablets are effective. Until they are tested in laboratories, it is not possible to say whether they work or not.
- It's nothing more than "smog-business". (…) It would be great to have a smog pill and to reverse the negative effects of carcinogens or the polluted air we breathe, but there are no such pills - argues Dr. n.med in an interview with TOK FM. Piotr Dąbrowiecki from the Military Medical Institute.2If they were, they would have been used by people who smoke tobacco for a long time.
Bioethicist Jakub Zawiła-Niedźwiecki from the Center for Bioethics and Biolaw is of a similar opinion. - Producers of supplements tread a fine line, they cannot say or write that a given product "heals" and hence such terms as "neutralizes", but it is not the case that a supplement can neutralize air pollution. We are dealing here simply with a false advertisement - assesses Zawiła-Niedźwiecki.2
Experts, instead of taking fancy supplements, advise you to take care of a proper diet, consider buying anti-smog masks, air purifiers.
Worth knowingSmog cream for PLN 965 and … fresh air bottles, i.e. business smog
The sale includes not only tablets to protect against smog, but also eye drops, creams and other cosmetics. One of the companies offers a detoxifying and oxygenating cream for smog for … PLN 965 (for 45 ml). As the producers argue, "It is an innovative preparation that not only captures oxygen from the air to" force "it deep into the skin, but also captures excess carbon dioxide in the skin, binds it and" throws it "outside." One of the companies has gone a step further and sells… fresh air in a bottle. One is enough for 80 puffs. The cost is $ 28 apiece.
