Gallbladder disease dietis an easily digestible diet with reduced fat and fiber. There are three disease states in which certain modifications of this diet are used:

  • acute cholecystitis,
  • chronic cholecystitis and cholangitis,
  • gallstone disease.

The role of the diet is to reduce the secretory activity of the gallbladder, alleviate symptoms related to its dysfunction and support pharmacological treatment.

Diet in diseases of the gallbladder - characteristics

An easily digestible diet with reduced fat and fiber contains protein in a physiological standard of approx. 1 g / kg of body weight and limits fat to 40-50 grams per day. Fat restriction is necessary due to its impaired digestion and absorption, and the recommended amount includes both fat in products (meat, meat preparations, milk, dairy products, eggs) and added to dishes. You should not only pay attention to its quantity in the diet, but also to its quality.

Fat products added to dishes in the amount of 20-30 g / day are: rapeseed oil, linseed oil, olive oil. Lard, bacon, bacon and tallow are completely excluded. The remaining amount of the daily fat ration is called hidden fat naturally contained in the product.

The diet should cover the body's energy requirements to maintain the proper body weight. Fats cover the energy requirement up to 20%, protein 12-18%, and the remaining daily amount of energy is provided by carbohydrates. The reduced amount of fat in the diet results in the supply of smaller amounts of fat-soluble vitamins.

You have to keep this in mind and increase the plant sources of beta-carotene (carrots, pumpkins, tomatoes, zucchini, parsley, dill). A greater supply of vitamin C is also recommended. Its supplementation is worth considering, because in the diet of gallbladder diseases, vegetables and fruits (i.e. sources of vitamin C) cooked, and the increased temperature causes a very large loss of vitamin C in food. It is advisable to eliminate products that cause strong contractions of the gallbladder (egg yolks, fatty meats, fried foods).

Food that is difficult to digest, remains in the stomach for a long time, bloating, spicy, and coarse grain products are excluded from the diet due to the large amount of fiber. However, this does not mean that grain products should be ruled out.

Small groats and white flour products are indicated. Eating excess sugar, sweets, chocolate, and honey promotes gallstones, so beware of them. Dishes should be freshly prepared.

Prepared and long-stored meals should be avoided. The recommended processing methods are boiling, steaming, stewing (it is allowed to fry without fat beforehand), baking in foil, parchment, on a wire rack or in a toaster. Frying and baking in fat is completely excluded. Food is soaked in fat and is difficult to digest.

Soups are made on vegetable stock. Soups and sauces can be thickened with a suspension of flour and milk. The permitted fat should be added raw to ready-made meals.

Fruit should be boiled and crushed, eaten in the form of juices and purees. Vegetables are recommended to be cooked, baked, shredded and in the form of juices. You should limit sorrel, spinach and rhubarb due to their high content of oxalic acid.

Meals should be small in volume and at a moderate temperature. They cannot be cold - straight from the fridge, nor hot. You should not overeat. 4-5 meals a day at fixed times are recommended.

Acute cholecystitis

  • Fasting for 1 day; to drink warm liquids, sweetened tea with lemon, sweet fruit juices.
  • On the second day, gruel is introduced, followed by rubbed sweet compotes, grated fine groats with a little butter, lean cottage cheese, skim milk.Drinks should be drunk in larger quantities. This diet is recommended for up to 3 days.

Chronic cholecystitis

Follow an easily digestible diet with reduced fat and fiber.

Gallstones

If gallstone disease is asymptomatic, a basic diet with increased amounts of dietary fiber is indicated. This type of nutrition intensifies the passage of the intestines, which reduces the amount of bile s alts formed in the intestine, and the liver produces more bile acids that dissolve gallstones.

If symptoms occur, introduce an easily digestible diet with reduced fat and fiber.

  • Easily digestible diet - 7-day menu
  • Gall bladder: resection. For and against vesicle surgery
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) - examination of the bile ducts and pancreas
  • Hida test - biliary obstruction test
