What instead of carp on Christmas Eve? This question is asked by those who do not like this traditional Christmas fish. Fortunately, there are fish that can replace carp on the Christmas Eve table. They are tasty and, in addition, less fat and less bony than carp, so they can also be eaten by children and people who are on a diet. Check which fish should be prepared for the holidays.

What instead of carp on Christmas Eve?During Christmas, carp can be replaced with other popular fish, such as: trout, halibut, cod and zander. The table on Christmas Eve may also include the carp belonging to the carp family. Most of these fish are skinny and have little bones and can therefore be enjoyed by children and dieters. Some of them can also be used by pregnant women without fear.

What kind of fish should be prepared for Christmas?

Trout

Trout meat is delicate in taste, soft, not very bony and medium fat (2.1 g fat / 100 g). Nevertheless, people who are on a diet can reach for it, because 100 g of trout is only 97 kcal.

Trout is a rich source of protein (19.2 g / 100 g), mineral elements (sodium, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium) and vitamins (vitamins A and D and B vitamins).

Most importantly, however, trout contains the most omega-3 fatty acids of any freshwater fish. For this reason, it is recommended for pregnant women.

It is worth knowing that the stream trout has the highest protein content (18.9% on average) of all farmed fish.

Halibut

Halibut is one of the fish that contains the most omega-3 fatty acids (0.62g / 100g; daily dose is 1g). Halibut is also a rich source of protein (20.1 g / 100 g) and vitamins A (29 μg / 100 g) and D (4.5 μg / 100 g).

Halibut meat is medium-fat (1.9 g fat / 100 g) and delicate in taste, and additionally contains little bones. Its energy value is 98 kcal / 100 g.

Halibut is one of the more expensive fish.Priceper kg of carcass or fillets is up to PLN 60.

Cod

Cod is one of the least caloric fish (78 kcal and 0.7 g fat / 100 g). Therefore, it is safefor people on a diet.

Cod meat is neutral in taste and has little bones. Cod is characterized by a high content of protein (17.7 g / 100 g), iodine, selenium, magnesium and vitamin B12, as well as omega-3 fatty acids, therefore pregnant women can eat it without fear.

It's good to know that the cod from the Pacific has twice as much omega-3 fatty acids as the Atlantic cod.

Zander

Zander is one of the most appreciated freshwater fish. It has white, lean (0.7 g / 100 g) meat, with a small amount of bones, a very delicate taste, without the aftertaste of mud, which is characteristic of many freshwater fish.

Zander contains a lot of iron, vitamin A and B vitamins, as well as proteins (19.2 g / 100 g)

Energy value of zander - 84 kcal / 100 g.

Tołpyga

Tołpyga is a fish from the carp family. However, it is tastier than carp because it has a delicate and creamy flesh. Unfortunately, like carp, it has many small bones.

Silver carp is one of the most caloric fish: approx. 130 kcal. Due to the fact that it is fatty (9 g fat / 100 g), it is rich in beneficial polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). It is also a rich source of protein (approx. 11 g / 100 g).

IMPORTANT!Silver carp has a slightly muddy smell. To get rid of it, soak the prepared fish for 3-4 hours. in very s alty cold water, in water with vinegar or in pickled cucumber juice.
