Stationary rehabilitationis one of the benefits reimbursed by the National He alth Fund. Unlike other types of rehabilitation - including outpatient rehabilitation and day ward rehabilitation - it is intended for patients who, for various reasons, are not independent and require constant supervision, continue treatment and need constant medical care. Treatments are directed, among others patients immediately after injuries, operations or amputations.

Inpatient rehabilitation: how to benefit?

In order to be able to benefit from rehabilitation procedures in stationary conditions, it is necessary to refer to rehabilitation, issued by a specialist doctor. It is worth knowing that a referral for a specific type of inpatient rehabilitation must come from a doctor who not only has a signed agreement with the National He alth Fund, but also an appropriate specialization appropriate for a given he alth problem.

The referral is usually valid for 30 days (which depends, however, on the phase of the disease or the type of injury that requires rehabilitation, so you should always check what is the case in a given case).

The referral should be accompanied by a copy or original of the current medical documentation that confirms the diagnosis.

It is good if the documents include a hospital treatment card and the results of tests performed during hospitalization - descriptions of X-ray pictures, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, or medical documentation from a specialist clinic.

The duration of rehabilitation is specified in regulations, but may be extended if necessary, but it requires the written consent of the director of the relevant NHF branch.

What is the admission to the rehabilitation unit like?

You can be admitted urgently for this type of rehabilitation or wait for your place inqueue.

However, the decision about admission to the inpatient rehabilitation department is ultimately made by a doctor or a medical board from this department, based on the patient's examination and diagnosis, which is in the documentation.

Depending on the requirements of the institution, the referral can be sent by post or delivered for registration. The registration worker enters the patient on the list and calls to the medical board in a timely manner - if the result of the qualification is positive, the date of admission to the ward is set.

Rehabilitation in hospital: types

It is worth knowing that inpatient rehabilitation is carried out by departments specialized in rehabilitating patients after various types of diseases and injuries. Therefore, there is no one type of rehabilitation, but its different categories.

  • Systemic rehabilitation

Systemic rehabilitation lasts up to 6 weeks (it can be extended if necessary), and the treatments take place 5 times a day, 6 days a week. A referral for systemic rehabilitation can be issued by a doctor from the hospital ward:

  • trauma-orthopedic,
  • surgery,
  • neurosurgery,
  • neuroscience,
  • rheumatology
  • internal diseases,
  • oncology,
  • gynecology,
  • urology,
  • pediatrics,
  • cardiology,
  • geriatrics.

If the patient suffers from a chronic disease and his condition worsens, a referral may also be issued by a doctor from the rehabilitation, trauma-orthopedic, neurological and rheumatology clinics.

  • Pulmonary rehabilitation

Pulmonary rehabilitation lasts up to 3 weeks, treatments are performed on average five times a day, 6 days a week. A referral for pulmonary rehabilitation can be issued by a doctor from the department:

  • pulmonary,
  • tuberculosis and lung disease,
  • thoracic surgery,
  • cardiology,
  • ENT,
  • internal diseases,
  • allergology,
  • oncology,

or a doctor from the clinic for rehabilitation, pulmonary tuberculosis and lung diseases, allergology, and thoracic surgery.

  • Cardiac rehabilitation

The duration of cardiac rehabilitation depends on the advancement of the disease and the general he alth of the patient.

  • rehabilitation with comorbiditiesis conducted for five weeks, six days a week. The patient is referred to it immediately after discharge from the hospital or within 56 days from the date of discharge
  • cardiac rehabilitation of category I- lasts up to three weeks, treatments are performed 6 days a week. The patient is admitted immediately after discharge or within 42 days at the latest
  • cardiological rehabilitation of the II category- lasts up to two weeks, treatments are performed six days a week. The patient should be admitted to it within 28 days of discharge from the hospital where he was treated for the acute phase of the disease.

A referral for cardiac rehabilitation is issued by a doctor from the departments of cardiology, cardiosurgery, internal diseases, as well as a doctor from a cardiology or rehabilitation clinic.

  • Neurological rehabilitation

Its duration and type of treatments depend on the patient's he alth condition, as well as the date that has elapsed since the moment of discharge from the center where the acute phase of the disease was treated. The shortest duration is six weeks, but some types of neurological rehabilitation - e.g. in the case of brain disorders - are carried out for up to 16 weeks.

The referral is issued by the doctor from the ward

  • anesthesiology and intensive care,
  • neuroscience,
  • neurosurgery,
  • general surgery
  • orthopedics and traumatology,
  • infectious diseases,
  • internal diseases,

or a specialist in rehabilitation, neurology, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery.
