In the 27th week of pregnancy, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. After a glucose load of 75 g, the fasting result was 88.3 mg, after 2 hours. - 179 mg. Then, in the maternity ward, fasting norms of 74-106 mg were taken into account, 2 hours after a meal, 74-140. After these measurements, everything turned out to be normal. Nevertheless, the gynecologist told me to go to the diabetes clinic, and there I was told that the hospital measurements were a mistake, because in gestational diabetes it is measured one hour after the meal, not 2. I bought a glucose meter after leaving the hospital. After visiting the diabetologist, I started measuring the hour after the meal. Norms - fasting to 90 mg, an hour after a meal to 120 mg. I check myself what I can eat. Fasting results are normal. After breakfast, no matter if I eat 2 slices of white or dark bread (or a graham bun) with lean ham and tomato and fresh cucumber, the result is 119-125 mg - which is a bit above the norm. However, after lunch (not dietary), fried pork, with potatoes and salad, the result is up to 105 mg. Same after dessert with coffee. Even after 2 pieces of coffee cake and a level teaspoon of sugar, the result is up to 105 mg. After dinner, the result was always normal, never above 120 mg. What does it depend on if my results are worse with bread than with fried meat or dessert?

According to PTD and PTG (2014), the norms for fasting glucose are>92-125 mg / dL after 1 hour.>180 mg / dL, after 2 hours>153-199 ml / dl. When analyzing the results, it is worth referring to these standards.

Answering the question why after fatty meals the blood glucose is lower than after simple "diet" dishes.

If you are under the care of a diabetologist, you probably know terms such as carbohydrate exchangers, protein-fat exchangers. Well, if you eat a fatty meal, it contains a certain amount of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and nutrients. A certain amount of carbohydrate must be absorbed from the meal to raise the serum glucose concentration.

When your meal is high in fat and protein, carbohydrates are absorbed less, but it is also much slower. On the surface of the intestines some kind of fat layer is formed which forms a certain barrier againstabsorption of carbohydrates. Thanks to this, at the same time as if you were to eat just a roll with vegetables, carbohydrates will be absorbed to a lesser extent.

However, in a sandwich, the only obstacle to the absorption of carbohydrates is the fiber of the soluble fraction, e.g. from vegetables that you have on the sandwich. However, this does not mean that you only eat fatty foods. However, try to compose sandwiches with a multi-vegetable salad, e.g. sunflower seeds, linseed.

I encourage you to go to a good dietitian, who will explain the mechanisms of the exchangers during the visit and show you how to best compose meals so that the blood sugar level is constant.
