Multiple (plasmocytic) myeloma is a malignant neoplasm of the hematopoietic system which, if properly treated, can become a chronic disease that must be learned to live with. How to relieve the symptoms of multiple myeloma and what supports its treatment?
Multiple myeloma( plasma cell ,Kahler's disease ), thanks to modern therapies, more and more often a fatal disease turns into a chronic disease. That is why it is so important torelieve symptomsand support pharmacological treatment with an appropriate diet and lifestyle change.
Multiple myeloma: a daily dose of exercise supports treatment
Exercise is very helpful in maintaining physical fitness and overall well-being in people with multiple myeloma. For those patients who do not have badly damaged bones, swimming, yoga, strengthening and stretching exercises and a bicycle are recommended. On the other hand, people who are less fit should still walk in the fresh air as much as possible. This is enough to improve circulation, heart function, oxygenate the body and strengthen the muscles, skeleton and circulatory system, and increase the body's immunity. However, no exaggeration. Too intense exercise or overexertion increase the risk of fractures and can weaken the body. It is enough to exercise 15-20 minutes a day, but systematically. Preferably outdoors or with the window open.
Multiple myeloma: a he althy diet helps you stay fit
The daily diet of the sick person cannot lack vegetables, fruit and lean meat. However, you should avoid animal fats, highly processed products with many flavors and dyes. You must absolutely give up alcohol, because it weakens the immune system and promotes the excretion of B vitamins. Smoking is forbidden, as they destroy the antioxidants that help fight cancer cells. Due to the risk of kidney damage, you should also avoid high doses of vitamin C (including fruit and citrus juices). To maintain a good condition it is necessary to maintain the right proportions between the amount of protein, carbohydrates and fats. The most appropriate pattern is - 5 servings of grain products, 4 servings of vegetables, 3 fruits, 2 dairy products and 1 meat or fish. A menu planned in this way strengthens the immune system because it provides optimal amounts of carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and amino acids necessary for its regeneration.
Multiple myeloma: rest and good mood increase immunity
In the treatment of any neoplastic disease, the patient's attitude to therapy is important. What we call positive thinking can take the place of medicine in many ways. Therefore, patients with multiple myeloma should sleep at least 8 hours in order not to overload the immune system. It is also worth taking a short nap during the day. In order not to weaken immunity, stress should be avoided, as it is known that hormones released in stressful situations weaken the immune system. The more good mood, small pleasures, relaxing activities, the slower the disease progresses, the stronger the body's defense system. By following these rules, many people can lead a normal life for many years.
ImportantRelief of symptoms
- In weakness caused by anemia, blood transfusions are used, and in milder forms of anemia - erythropoietin. It is a peptide hormone that stimulates the multiplication of red blood cells in the stem cells of the bone marrow.
- Pain relief patches are effective for bone pain. Patients are also given morphine derivatives. Relieving pain is important because it allows you to keep moving.
- In the case of recurrent infections, antibiotics or intravenous immunoglobulin are used to help the immune system fight microbes.
