What parts of muscles will the stepper work on - my main point is whether my calves will not be too muscular and whether any effects on my bottom and thighs will be visible. The abdominal muscles work on the oblique bench, but which ones else? And which parties work on the elliptical cross trainer?

It is not the type of machine or exercise, but the way it is performed (duration of exercise, number of series, repetitions, break times, etc.) that determine the effects of reducing body fat or increasing muscle mass. If you are so interested in which muscles work with what exercise and which stretch, I recommend a richly illustrated book en titled "Anatomy in Strength Training and Fitness" Mark Vella ed. Muza 2007
