Moderate-intensity exercise is recommended to improve sleep, and high-intensity exercise (HIE) before bedtime is often discouraged. Scientists decided to check if it was right.

Experts conducted analyzes to determine whether regular, high-intensity exercise before falling asleep could interfere with sleep disruption in he althy adults aged 18-50 with no disturbance in this aspect. To this end, researchers analyzed six different databases covering this aspect.

The researchers concluded that evening HIE, which ended half to 4 hours before bedtime, decreased the REM phase characterized by rapid eye movement compared to the control group, which did not do any exercise. Apart from that, there were no other significant changes in sleep.

According to specialists, intense evening exercises 2-4 hours before bedtime will not disturb sleep in he althy young people, as well as in middle-aged adults.
