Age has a large and, unfortunately, negative impact on the level of physical activity - as much as 47 percent. Poles over 60 have not taken any activity in the last six months. However, family activity may be convincing to regular exercise, as as much as 40% of active seniors admit that they prefer sports practiced together with their relatives. An ideal place for this is the National Winter, where in the MultiSport Lab zone, on the occasion of Grandma's and Grandpa's Day (20-22.01), free consultations by physiotherapists, trainers and nutritionists will take place.

Despite the visible changes in the attitude of Poles to physical activity and the increasingly developed sports and recreational infrastructure, Polish society is just learning to be active. According to the MultiSport Index 2022 report, the most motivating factor for us to be active is he alth combined with pleasure resulting from regular exercise.

Currently, approximately 7.4 million active Poles treat physical activity as a form of recreation and relaxation. On the other hand, 56 percent. people over 60 years of age do not undertake any physical activity. Fear of the unknown, lack of knowledge about the benefits of a he althy lifestyle, stereotypes regarding activity in the elderly age, and thus the underestimated motivation of people aged 60+, are now unhe althy components of an aging society.

Free consultation for seniors

- Physical activity is extremely important at every stage of our lives. Unfortunately, at a certain age it is abandoned, which negatively affects he alth and well-being, and thus the quality of life. In Poland, nearly half of people over 60 do not exercise, and every third assess their he alth negatively. This situation can be changed - it is enough to take up physical activity adapted to our abilities to notice its beneficial effects on our he alth over time - says Adam Radzki, Member of the Management Board of Benefit Systems.

From 20 to 22 January 2022, on the occasion of Grandma's and Grandpa's Day at the National Winter , all people over 60 will be able to check their body condition for free and start their adventure with physical activity. Free consultations with physiotherapists, nutritionists and trainers were organized in the special MultiSport Lab zone (the PGE Narodowy stadium stadium in Warsaw).Seniors can also take advantage of body composition measurements, blood pressure and a posture scanner.

The MultiSport Lab he alth consultation area invites all seniors over 60 free of charge on Sunday (January 20, 2019) from 12: 00-19: 00 and on Monday and Tuesday (21-22 -.01.2019) from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Tickets should be collected at the MultiSport ticket office upon presentation of an ID card.

Age doesn't matter

The World He alth Organization (WHO) recommends systematic exercise for every age group, and for the elderly it recommends physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day 5 days a week or even very intense activity for at least 20 minutes 3 days a week. It is also recommended to perform exercises 2-3 times a week to increase muscle strength and endurance.

The role of physical activity increases especially in the period of depletion of human natural biological potential, because the numerous positive effects of activity include a sense of security (maintaining balance, minimizing the risk of falls, maintaining muscle strength and aerobic capacity), as well as a sense of independence , the possibility of maintaining social contacts, or higher self-esteem (especially in terms of the meaning of existence).

- The benefits that seniors can derive from properly dosed physical activity are manifold and apply to all body systems - says Sylwia Nowacka-Dobosz, doctor of physical culture at the Józef Piłsudski Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw - First of all, physical activity may slow down degenerative processes in the body in the area of motor skills. It inhibits the reduction of the mass of muscle tissue and bone tissue. It counteracts the decrease in aerobic capacity, causes better oxygenation of cells by improving blood supply, better supply of nutrients, as well as supports the processes of cleansing the body of toxins and supports metabolism.

Joint activity - more motivation

It turns out that family activity is to a large extent a motivating factor to exercise - as much as 40 percent. active seniors admit that they prefer sports practiced together. Joint, systematic movement not only has a positive effect on psychophysical he alth (including a significant reduction of stress), but can also have a direct impact on the improvement of interpersonal relations.
