In Międzyzdroje, Polish actors have their own alley and their … museum. These are not the only attractions of this seaside town. The wide beaches attract the most tourists.
A blue flag flutters over the beach in Międzyzdroje. For now, it is only a national distinction: the bathing beach has yet to earn an international recognition of the purity of the coastal sand and pro-ecological investments. This year, the beach in Międzyzdroje lost to the nearby ones - in Świnoujście, Pobierowo, Pogorzelica and Kołobrzeg - they enjoy international certification. But it does not mean that it is not worth vacationing in this famous B altic resort, because the wide strip of sand looks impressive. It stretches from the mouth of the Świna river in the west, and in the east it is limited by a narrowing below the Kawcza Góra mountain. Here, the seashore begins to rise up a high cliff and descends steeply into the water. These two natural boundaries define the bathing area, but are separated by several kilometers.
On the pier
A concrete pier, built in 2004, leads to the sea. It is 395 meters high, and you enter it through a pavilion full of shops and cafes. Its structure resembles the entrance pavilion, which stood at the old pier, built in 1895, when Międzyzdroje was still called Misdroy and belonged to the belt of elegant resorts along the German B altic coast.
The heavy, concrete structure of the sea promenade, unfortunately, does not resemble the old, light, wooden one. There is a currency exchange in the center. Why not a cafe?
In the shadow of the stars
A concert shell is currently under construction next to the pier entrance. It is now being completed and everything indicates that it will be a decoration of the resort. Nearby, a wax museum is being expanded. Judging by the number of tours that visit them, it enjoys considerable public interest. After all, it is the only such place in Poland. You can see here both Queen Cleopatra, and Stalin, and Beata Tyszkiewicz in the dress of Izabella Łęcka.
It is not far from here to the stars - they have their alley here. The Promenade of Stars, a square in which 108 tablets with handprints and autographs of famous people of the cinema have already been embedded in the slab. Międzyzdroje hosts the annual Stars Festival. Its next edition is just underway.
City walks
The city, which in the 1830s quickly turned from a fishing village into a well-known bathing area, is built up quite accidentally. There are nice hundred-year-old guesthouses and not very beautiful ones from fifty years ago. Along the seaside promenade, a row of stalls with everything organizes the lives of those who have already left the beach. For a longer walk, go to the neo-Gothic parish church, nicely situated on a hill, where concerts of the international choral music festival take place in May, and visit the recently renovated and the Stella Matutina (Morning Star) chapel.
Nature trips
In Międzyzdroje there is the seat of the management of the Wolin National Park, and a natural museum was organized next to it. White-tailed eagles and eagle owls live in the aviaries. A demonstration Bison farm was located slightly outside the city. The town is an excellent starting point for trips around Wolin Island.
