Natalia Przybysz has been an ambassador of the International Yoga Day for several years now - the singer and songwriter gave us an interview in which she explains how yoga influenced her life and why, as she emphasizes, it can be called a "boon". Read on!

Every year, the world celebratesInternational Yoga Daywith many events. In Poland, in 2022, we celebrate June 25 at Pole Mokotowskie in Warsaw and in many other cities in Poland (for details of the event, see the article at this link). On the occasion of the great yoga celebration, Natalia Przybysz told us about her experience in practicing yoga. Read why the singer has not given up on it for many years!

  • You recall that your first experience with yoga came from the USA: when and how did it happen?

Natalia Przybysz:In the United States I was taking my secondary school-leaving examination and then I started looking for a springboard, an antidote to the surrounding Western culture. I suffered from migraines from eating unhe althy foods, but soon discovered the value of exercise. I played in the school football team, then yoga appeared, although I actually started my adventure with it in high school.

  • How yoga influenced you: How is your life before yoga different from the life you live now?

What has changed is that there is a fixed point in my life - yoga. Sistars, solo career, veganism, relationships, kids - there's a lot going on in my life and it's still the case that I keep going back to the mat. Yoga develops a bond with yourself and an addiction to feeling your body and energy. It allows me to resonate better, which is important for someone who works with the voice.

  • Ashtanga, Sivananda, Kundalini - there are many types of yoga. Do you have your favorite? Do you have your favorite and least liked asana?

I started with Ayengar (Iyengar) yoga and fell in love with the first class - both in the asanas themselves and in the creator of iyengar yoga - B.K.S. Iyengar. One day, during a class in a bunker in the center of Warsaw at Mr. Bubicz's school, I saw an old man in a striped T-shirt à la Picasso, withlush gray hair that stood long and dignified on his head in the center of the room. This was the moment. I wanted to be like him. Then, with Ewa Jaros, Justyna Jaworska and Przemek Nadolny, I practiced Ashtanga with Radek Rychlik. It was also a revelation. I respect both styles, but I practice Ashtanga most of the time. I also like to stop and study asanas during great classes at Yoga Rhythm in Ochota, where I have the closest.

  • It is said that "yoga is the connection between body and mind and mind and soul" - do you agree with this statement and how would you develop it?
  • Of course! Breath-body-mind - this synthesis has to be experienced, it is alchemy. I see vibrations in this connection, and even sounds. I will also add that OM (the syllable that embodies the mystical essence of the entire cosmos) has a cosmic meaning also from the female perspective. It is a special value for me.

  • How do you practice yoga: has it become part of your daily ritual? How much time do you devote to yoga each day?
  • Yoga is in my singing, shopping, cooking, dancing, swimming, babysitting. I practise daily. Sometimes for a long time, and sometimes just setting my spine with the Greeting to the Sun, or regenerating myself with inverted positions and Pascimottanasana. Body awareness arises and develops when yoga accompanies us in life - once you try it, you will never part with it. It is similar to a language that everyone unconsciously uses, but few understand it.

  • Why did you decide to become, once again, the ambassador of the International Yoga Day?
  • I am honored, proud and happy that I can perform such an important function in our country. I agreed, because I have good memories of the previous years of cooperation and I know that it is important to share my experiences with yoga. I like to talk and listen to conversations about yoga, it draws me a lot and is passionate about it.

  • Speaking of promoting yoga in Poland - how would you encourage beginners to do it? Where to start?
  • Yoga is an absolute boon and, in my opinion, does not need to be promoted. It is natural that more and more people are reaching for it, because it is a path of development, and often a rescue. Yoga is an ancient prescription for diseases of the future. Successive civilization diseases, addictions and the progress of the painting's hood force us to trust in natural methods and start looking for peace in ourselves and learn to be really here. Yoga is close today. You can start anywhere in Poland.
