In spring, allergy sufferers struggle with many unpleasant symptoms. How to deal with runny nose, cough, red eyes and shortness of breath or skin rashes?

It is estimated that about 40 percent Poles periodically have allergic symptoms1, and nearly half have a positive allergic skin test for common allergens. As many as 8 million Poles suffer from allergic rhinitis, which places our country at the forefront of countries in terms of the occurrence of an allergic reaction. Allergic rhinitis is a global he alth problem and, according to the latest research, it may affect around 10-25% of the population. population. Often, rhinitis and asthma coexist, making it even more difficult for patients to lead a normal life. As a result of contact with airborne allergens, patients suffer from allergic rhinitis, manifested by watery discharge, frequent, serial sneezing, itching, redness and watery eyes, nasal congestion and itching. In spring, allergy sufferers may suffer from recurrent skin urticaria.

How to survive spring dusting?

The best way to reduce the negative effects of an allergy is to avoid contact with the allergen. However, if it is, for example, pollen from trees or grasses, it is difficult to do so. Tight closing of all windows and not leaving the house makes the patient a "hostage" of allergies. There are other effective ways to fight the symptoms of the disease. Persistent runny nose, cough, irritation of the mucous membranes of the throat and nose, constant fatigue, hives or conjunctivitis may appear in reaction to allergens present in the air in the spring. You can survive this difficult period for allergy sufferers by limiting the stay in the fresh air during the period of the highest pollen concentration. It takes place in the early morning hours - from 5 to 8 - and in the afternoon - from 5 to 7 PM. The exception is rainy days, which limit the concentration of allergens in the air. Allergy sufferers are advised to walk in the rain or just after it. Closing the windows and using dense, pollen-retaining curtains will prevent allergenic factors from entering our home. Of course, it should be aired, but it's best to do it at night. Allergy sufferers are not recommendedtrips to the forest or to the meadow, where the pollen concentration is highest. On the other hand, staying at the seaside or in the mountains will have a positive effect on their he alth. After each return from the court, the allergy sufferer should wash his face and hands thoroughly, bathe and wash his hair every day. He should wash his clothes often and dry them at home, not outdoors. It is also worth using antiallergic agents, they are also available over the counter and do allow for quick treatment of allergy symptoms. Drugs that are easy to apply, act immediately and for a long time are optimal. Such pharmaceuticals should have a strong antihistamine effect. The new generation of drugs contain levocetirizine, which is a strong and selective antagonist of peripheral H1 receptors. According to the researchers, the action of levocetirizine is strongest within the first 12 hours of administration and lasts for 24 hours. In addition, its use in antiallergic drugs is safe, which has been demonstrated in clinical trials. Some studies have shown that this substance significantly reduces symptoms of allergic rhinitis and nasal congestion.
