I have had pains on the right side of my abdomen for some time, radiating towards the right kidney. The kidney ultrasound showed that the collecting ducts were dilated and that there was probably sand in the kidney. I was surprised by this news because I'm only 24 years old. I have always thought that this disease affects the elderly. Unfortunately, the urologist did not give me a reason that probably influenced the development of this ailment, nor did he recommend any special diet. Therefore, I would like to ask for some nutritional tips that would be helpful. Can I go to the pool, run and play other sports without any problems? Thank you in advance for the information. Kaśka from Poznań

Playing sports is not contraindicated, on the contrary - the movement promotes the excretion of deposits. In order to rationally modify the diet, the chemical composition of the deposits excreted by you must first be examined. A universal recommendation for people with urolithiasis is to drink plenty of fluids. It is also advisable to periodically perform an ultrasound examination to assess the size and location of the deposits. Kidney stones can occur even in children.
