According to the Italian virologist, Professor Fabrizio Pregliasco from the University of Milan, Covid-19 will be present in our lives for a long time, and therefore the vaccination strategy will also change. The expert also said what - in his opinion - best protects against the severe form of this disease.

"The best blend of antibodies to protect against Covid-19 is the one that is vaccinated and infected," said the researcher. As he explained, this is because the vaccination results in a very strong antibody reaction to the coronavirus spike protein, and the coronavirus infection provides an even stronger barrier.

According to prof. With Pregliasco, twice-vaccinated people who then become infected may not need a third dose. "But you have to prove everything. Today the recommendation is that the fourth event is also needed, that is, the third dose of the vaccine. We will see in the future" - the expert said in an interview with the Italian agency ADNKronos.

A similar opinion is shared by Professor Matteo Bassetti, an infectious diseases specialist from a hospital in Genoa, who also shared his opinion in an interview with this agency. He says: "There is evidence that vaccination-associated infection provides a stronger immune response than what is possible only with vaccination."

"Being vaccinated and cured is an excellent combination, but also those who only get vaccinated are protected. Let's not compete, both solutions effectively protect against severe disease," he said.

However, as Bassetti warned, "Someone who has had Covid-19 and is not going to get vaccinated is making a big mistake."

Professor Pregliasco also stated that the coronavirus will circulate for a long time and that is why it is so important that as many people as possible have protection against it. As he added, the vaccination strategy will also change.

"It is impossible to give the fourth or fifth dose to everyone. It will be treated as in the case of flu and the recommended vaccinations against it; not - obligatory, but intended for the weakened and at risk, "said Fabrizio Pregliasco.
